Per Dave Telep on twitter:

@DaveTelep: Kris Dunn said he's down to Providence and UConn. Commitment coming this week.

Ouch... Does anyone know if it was true if we did not let him commit while waiting for York? I know it has been inferred before, but wasn't sure if that is exactly how it went down.

NotAnAlum

I just don't understand why a kid like this would consider Providence.  They just haven't done anything in so long and now they are going through another coaching change.  To me either play for the local team (UCONN) who is always a contentor or go away to school but to another contentor.

I would seriously doubt it.

Wow...I'm absolutely gutted not to be on the list, especially with him going to another Big East school. I seriously wonder if we lost out on him because of our dedication to landing York. He specifically said he wanted to go to Marquette in March, so something changed over the summer.

I'm expecting him to surprise people and pick Providence. I don't think he gelled well with Omar Calhoun from what I've heard, and UConn is pretty well off at the point.

This sucks.

That quote always struck me funny.

If you're desperate to attend a school, what's the reason for not committing then and there?

Dunn Dunn Dunn..............another one out.

I'm not sure we had offered him yet by that point. Dunn wasn't in the top-100 back then and we were still after York. I really think we might have made him wait while we pursued York, and by the time we lost out on York it was too late. I'm not sure that's the case, but that's what it feels like. Personally, what makes it worse is that I felt Dunn was a better fit for us from the start.

But hey, that's just one man's opinion...

Providence is pretty much just as local as Storrs.  (55 miles v. 35 miles from New London.)  And it's an easier drive.  He is pretty much going to start from the beginning at Providence.  At UConn he would have to wait his turn assuming he beats out the other PG recruited in the very same class.

Maybe MU wasn't willing to commit to him at that point.

My guess is that Buzz knew this for awhile and that is why we have seen all the Ray Lee talk and the other points being mentioned.

Per Scout, the top 2013 PG prospect we are in on is the #11 ranked guy out of Flint Monte Morris. Buzz should be able give the keys to a top 10 pg to run the show as a freshman (or at least sell the idea) since there isn't anyone in front of them.

There isn't anyone in front of them????  Are you serious?

Derrick Wilson and TJ Taylor are both points/can play the point.  Are you really so desperate for a top 100 PG recruit that you'd write both of these guys off before they even play a single game?

Everything is fine...the world is not ending.  We've got capable players at PG.  Unproven, sure, but so is any recruit we'd nab in 2012 or 2013.

We have a lot of options for 2013. Morris, Stephen Clark, Duane Wilson, Day McNeil, and in 2014 we're on Tyus Jones, Sadeeq Bello, and Emmanuel Mudiay. But as we've learned with Dunn and York, both of whom we were favorites with for a time, it's not done until you have them committed.

At this point I'd love Ray Lee, but UCF is probably the favorite.

Why is nobody mentioning Deonte Burton for 2013 class?  #36 ESPNU 100 SF out of Milwaukee currently attending Brewster Academy.

Because this discussion is about PGs. Burton is fantastic and I really hope to see him in Blue and Gold, but he's a switchable 2-3 type player.

I trust Buzz and am far from doom and gloom, but following recruiting as a fan is miserable if you potentially lose out to Providence and UCF back to back  :-\

BCHoopster

You have Cadougan for 2 more years, I am sure it will be much easier to recruit a kid knowing
that the point guard position is open, MU should be fine the next 2 years.  I would be more concerned
if it was 2012 and lost out on a point.  Still hoping for another big.  Recruiting is no easy game, each
good kid has 50 choices to pick so in reality MU is really doing good considering they are not in
the TOP 15 of basketball schools.  It does not mean that Buzz in the future will not get a Top 10 recruit, he
has a lot to sell considering 3 players in the last 3 years got NBA contracts.

Let it be known that wherever he ends up...when that team plays Marquette.  I will boo him loudly (yet respectfully).

Hand it to Ed Cooley if Dunn goes PC.  Worked his butt off to get him.  He knows New England well.

Good work Ken lol Providence is also said to be closing in on Ledo...Cooley is putting Providence back on the map

They can have Ledo, his off the court/attitude issues would scare me away. Not getting Dunn is a big disappointment though.

How much do you think the TJ Taylor commitment played into Dunn "cooling on" MU?  He supposed made his MU comment back in March or April...then TJ Taylor commits in May.  I went back and read Rosiak's article on his commitment, and he will be expected to play 1,2 or 3 both at Paris Juco and at MU when he arrives.

I'm guessing that played into it, but it was most likely a combination of Taylor, our pursuit of Gabe York, and the increased interest in Dunn that did us in. Granted, Providence isn't Kentucky, UNC, Duke, or one of the other blue blood college basketball programs, but the more options a recruit has, the less likely they are to pick us.

Quote from: Alex Kline, Recruit ScoopKris Dunn, a 2012 PG from New London (CT), is expected to commit to Providence today, while on campus.

I suppose it's better than UConn. Rumors also that Ricardo Ledo might be following Dunn to PC, both are on campus today. Ed Cooley is really turning them around in a hurry.
