The next big Wisconsin HS star?
« on: July 21, 2011, 06:41:46 PM »
MU classmate from Tosa mentioned this guy to me:

Diamond Stone, 6'8" (!!!) incoming freshman who is from Tosa East but will be playing at Dominican in high school.  I guess his dad played at UW-Whitewater with Jamil's dad.

I'm figurin' Kevon Looney.

Looney is the real deal. 6' 4" now, plays like a guard and has good range. He gets another 3-4 inches, he'll be super, super dangerous.

I have met Kevon Looney. He is part of the Running Rebels Organization, which speaks a lot where he is trying to make a difference in the community. If I am not mistaken, he is focused academically as well. MU is definitely recruiting him.

For a fact, Kevon was 6'5" last March.

Seen him (Stone) many, many times. He is a legit 6' 8", maybe 6' 9", but doesn't seem engaged at all. Almost seems bored. Maybe that will change. Plays for AAU for Wisconsin Legends. I think they won the Lebron AAU tourney in Ohio earlier this summer. When you team him up with good 3-point shooters, they have an almost unstoppable in-and-out game. Certainly has the name. Funny seeing him playing against traditional suburban 8th graders that are 5' 6".

Kevon needs to get stronger and quicker. He's been to the UWV vs. MU and ND vs MU games. UW had him there as well and compares him to Jalen Rose. Academics are a non-issue and he's been invited to open gym at the Al. Also, did I mention that Nick Young of the Wizards is his 1st cousin? School's out, however, if UNC or Duke come callin'.

As in, every other university is relegated to "also ran" status.

I too thought Looney when I saw the title. One thing I will say, Wisconsin seems to be doing a bit better when it comes to high school talent. Tokoto, Dekker, Wilson, Blue, Looney, Fischer, Koenig, now this Stone kid, and I know there are a few more top 100 guys in the mix. I'm not trying to say whatsoever that WI will be comparing to the top states any time soon, but if we can produce 2-3 top 100s per year, that has to give MU a bit of an edge. At least makes it a little easier on Buzz, not always having to travel to Virginia, Texas, Florida, or Cali.

thevag.... we're looking for the next big star here, not next player to barely score against Butler.

Tanner Bronson salutes the traditional effort though.

I wonder if Looney will have enough time before college to get stronger and quicker?  I believe that he is between his FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORE year in High School......Time is running out..... he must be 15 or 16 years old by now.

Lotta room on his frame to fill out. As we have seen a good rigorous weight program can do wonders, but that may not happens till college. Kevin's a good kid from a good family and he knows what he needs to do. Dad is highly involved also and was a former player as well. Schollies are often extended on potential. Won't be 16 till next year.

Right now Stone overmatches everyone. Hopefully, the light will go on when in HS. There are many HS players in Wisconsin right now that are going to make an impact. Looney is great and his buddy David Burrell isn't to shabby. Deonte Burton is making a big noise, Bronson Koenig,
Duane Wilson, Nick Fuller, Luke Fischer, Toby Hegner needs weight, Matt Thomas and don't forget Austin Mecca of Manitowoc. Very good players already.

The Next big thing in WI basketball will be Jake Diener from Fond du Lac. 6 foot 3 220 pounds of pure scoring ability!

Diamond Stone.......that is all-name team worthy.  However,  no one will ever supplant the Majestic and Scientific Mapp brothers IMO.

Anyhow,  it's great to hear of elite up-and-coming talent in the Brew.  I always like our chances.  Let's just hope these guys don't maintain top 25 rankings.....those guys always seem to leave.

Jakes stats were hindered due lack of playing time. He will explode onto the scene this year, I believe he is the leading scorer on his AAU team.

Anyone with the name Diener from Fondle Sac has been thoroughly scouted. Perhaps he is a late bloomer,  but the cupboards are full at guard for 2012.  MU needs bigs.......at minimum more "switchables"
