No idea if UNC has offered or not, but McGary seems to be having a love affair start with them on Twitter. Retweeting UNC fans giving him props for his highlight videos and how happy they are to see him with Marcus Paige and JP Tokoto on the Nike Global Challenge Midwest team in hopes of it being the future of UNC basketball. The more I read about him over the past week, the more I feel UNC is going to swoop in and steal this one, too.

I am not an expert but couldn't such fan contact be construed as a violation of NCAA recruiting rules?

Al was so fed up with "Looney" Toone(s) he got in a fistfight with him in the locker room at haftime during an NCAA tourney game in 77 over Toone's playing time. Despite that, he played starter's minutes as our 6th man in the championship game vs North Carolina.
Can you imagine what the reaction to this would be today from certain of our fans?  They'd want the coach fired immediately (if not prosecuted) and the player summarily dismissed (and definitely prosecuted).  How times have changed.

Al put Marquette on the map. He inherited an abysmal program and turned it into the second most successful one in the country behind UCLA. He was smart, funny and principled. Along the way, he was firmly on the side of equal opportunity and taught his players to use basketball rather than the converse.

That said, had the internet been available during his time I'm sure some fans would have ripped him for his temper, strategies, use of tranfers/jucos, lack of traditionals, etc. and those who defended him would be called head in the sand kool aid drinkers. Goes with the territory.

As I understand it, absolutely.

nyg---Basketball Weekly was my Bible back in the day. Could not wait until Thursday's and see MU was recruiting. BT was #1 and he was one helluva of a talent.

UNC board is reporting that McGary was officially offered earlier this week. Roy and staff watched him a number of times over the last few weeks.

Between his Twitter and the offer finally coming, I have to think UNC is the leader. That said, maybe Mark Miller's recent tweet is bringing some surprising news on the McGary front...he has visited Marquette's campus multiple times already. Fingers crossed, but not expecting much here.
