With this taking up three 2012 games, then adding in Wisconsin, LSU, UW-M, and UW-GB, I hope Broeker and company try to schedule top-200 buys for most of the rest of the games. That'll likely have at least four tourney teams, no need to try to get more unless they're either auto-bids that we get lucky to schedule or maybe one neutral court like Washington this year.

Maui is an exempt tournament.  It counts as 2 games in a 29 game regular season (actually, the rule states either 29 games or 27 games plus one in-season tournament with no more than 4 maximum games allowed).  MU has 5 other nonconference games to schedule, in additon to the 4 you mentioned above.

Mr. Nielsen

I would say 6 games to get to a total of 31 games.

The only way they can get to 31 games is if the exempt tournament they play in is 4 games.  The rule states either 29 games or 27 games plus an exempt tournament with up to a maximum of 4 games.  The BE slate is 18 games.  Brew mentioned 4 games plus Maui.  That allows 5 other nonconference games to be scheduled.

http://www.momentummedia.com/articles/cm/cm1406/bbtwoinfour.htm

"Under the new rules, teams can play either 29 regular season games or 27 regular season games plus no more than four games in one multi-team tournament for a maximum of 31 games. Conference and other postseason tournaments do not count against the limit. Before the change, teams were limited to 28 games, with exempt multi-team events counting as one of those 28 contests."

http://www.bloggingthebracket.com/2009/9/24/1052438/spreading-the-wealth-the

"Before we look at exempt events, here's Men's Division I basketball scheduling for Dummies.  The NCAA lets teams play 29 regular season games.  However, schools can up that number to 30 or 31 by playing in an exempt event (27 single regular season games, plus 3 or 4 in the event)."

Mr. Nielsen

I didn't even read what you wrote, but it will be 31 total games. It always is!

Old Spice, Par. Jam, Maui are all 3 games. Why would next year be any different than this seaon or in 2009?

Paradise Jam in 4 games. We are playing Norfolk St as part of that event, but in Milwaukee.

When we played in Maui in 2007 we only played 30 games

Don't let facts get in your way.   Maybe you should have actually read it before making that post.  ::)

PS  The last time MU was in Maui we played 30 games.  '09/10 was also 30 games.  That is because Maui and Old Spice are only 3 game tournaments, not 4.

Ok, then there might/will be 30 games. I was at work, didn't have time to read your book. Think it's funny, since I've hit every date for MU's non-league games on the nose. Ya, what do I know.  ::)

Don't forget the Maui, starting this season is playing games in the US. So, MU might have 4 total in Maui. 1 at the BC and 3 in Maui.

I guess we will find out in Sept. 2012  ;)

Or we might have a game on the road. First it'd depend on how many games they had, if it was 2 pre-Maui games or 4. I'd guess UNC and Texas would be certain home teams. Butler and Chaminade would probably have to play road games if they were included. That leaves Marquette, Illinois, USC, and Mississippi State with the potential to host games. I wouldn't consider us a lock out of those four teams. If there were four games, I'd say Illinois and us should be the other hosts, but again, no guarantee.

Congrats on getting the dates correct.  I guess you missed, though, the NCAA change in  2006 with regards to scheduling and exempt tournaments, so I guess you do not know it all.    ;)

I have not seen exactly how Maui will fill out the brackets.  I know there are 3 formats, but I have not seen how it schedules out.  If it does become a 4 game tournament, then MU will play 31 games.  That, though, is the only way it become 31 next year.  Not because "It always is!".   ;)

My bag, I look in 2009, it was 30 games. :-[

Ya, well let's get things set for 2011-12 season.

I was going to see MU play in 2012 76st classic in Anaheim, but I don't blame MU for dropping out and playing in Maui.

We don't know if MU & UWM will be playing in 2012. 2011 is the final year of the 5 year deal. Nothing has been signed yet for 2012.
