Standout Prep Guard Todd Mayo Signs With Marquette

Prep standout Todd Mayo has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men's basketball program, head coach Buzz Williams announced Wednesday afternoon.

I hope Jarion Henry, Texas, or Kevin Johnson, C, California, or Kevin Coleman come in the program.  If not Philip Jurick C. Otherwise Aaric Murray in 2012. WE NEED A BIG. ENOUGH
SMALL BALL.   Was hoping for OTTO PORTER but as usual we lost the best of the bunch.

GGGG

Uhhh...thanks Earl.

I'm glad we have Todd. Looks like we got a guy on the rise.

Boone

Henry's as thin as a q-tip. You're clueless  if you think he's a big man.

Kevin Johnson is ranked eighth in California among players with the last name Johnson!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Same with Porter, who would be a "switchable" 4 at MU, but is more of a perimeter/wing player than a "BIG."

Boone

Has K. Johnson's situation changed of late? A Scout article from several  months ago quoted his coach as saying Johnson would be attending a JUCO next fall.

Earl Tatum

Porter is 205 or so. Yes, he is thin, but he rebounds his position and has length (wingspan). But he signed with Gtown. Enough said. So, who do we want.

Todd - welcome, thrilled to have you!

Earl - I'd like a big with the last pick too, but did you miss this season?

Marquette average height on court and percentile (100 percent equals tallest team in country, 0 percentile equals shortest team in country):

2011 - 6-foot-5, 70th percentile

2010 - 6-foot-2.7, 12th percentil

2009 - 6-foot-2.6 inches, 12th percentile

2008 - 6-foot-3.8, 59th percentile

2007 - 6-foot-4.6, 57th percentile

Otule and gardner will only play more next year and with the new guys we will go up again. I'd like another big, butwe aren't desperate for one like we were in 2009 and 2010.

Henry = Players we have now who are better
Johnson = JUCO or Prep School
Coleman = Probably not good enough
Jurick = Has size, but may not be what MU needs in the post.
Murray or another frontcourt Division 1 transfer are probably the best bets or bank it for 2012.
If You Aren't All In For Marquette Basketball, Move On

Earl Tatum

Marquette99  --- But we were beat on the boards. Hopefully Otule will advance and Gardner will jump higher. Like Gardner's potential.
Jamil you're right it is Keith.
Still would like Coleman as he could help on the boards. The way espn has him written up, he's a world beater, know better than that. Johnson does have some Academic issues. Like Jurick,
but is a plodder.

marquette99

Earl - I think we agreeon what we want -and I would gladly take coleman or jurack if we don't get murray. Just saying we were much better on the boards in most games and as much as otule and gardner areimproving its not the end of the world.  For 2 years we didn't have anyone over 6-5 on the court.

But as I've posted, if murray signs I'll go ahead and schedule my time off to go to the 2013 final 4.

But I am excited about mayo making it official today.

Umm..was this thread about Todd Mayo signing??!  I'm thrilled Todd chose MU and think he'l be a great player at MU.  Let's not complain or focus on who we haven't signed today...but instead focus on celebrating who we did sign.

Welcome to MU Todd!!!

I believe the same description applied to one Bo Ellis too.

That's All-American Bo Ellis.

That's NCAA Champion Bo Ellis.

I don't give a darn how thin he is, if he can play sign him.

Remember when Bo Ellis played... 30 years ago.

Are you really comparing those players with today?

If you are, man, you are way out of touch.

Edit: and by 30 I really meant 35... time  sure does fly.

If the second coming of Kevin Durante, thin as a rail, wants to come to Marquette, I'd welcome him with open arms.

Interesting that the Mayo signing made the Headlines section of the main ESPN college bball page... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/

Me too, but lets be honest here.  Kevin Durant was never a 'big' man.

Same with Steve Novak.

Were they both tall?  sure.

NersEllenson

I've seen Henry play, and he's pretty darn soft at this point.  He's an athlete right now that also plays basketball.  Think Trend Blackledge...but Henry is probably about as good right now as Blackledge was as a Senior at MU..
