Forgive me, as I've just gotten back from a weeks vacation and don't have time to read all the posts I've missed.  But I read this today from ESPN.

I know some STILL aren't happy with how Buzz was hired, but at least Cottingham didn't look like a complete buffoon.  The OU AD to most outsiders looks like a complete moron after the fiasco he started after firing Capel.

I point out this line from the linked article as proof;

Quote from: ESPN
Terms of Kruger's contract were not released, but he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he turned athletic director Joe Castiglione down several times before accepting a seven-year deal that will double his pay to about $2.2 million annually.

After all the posturing that he did, Castiglione HAD to get a coach that had a coach that had SOME name recognition.

Aughnanure

Still doesn't look as bad at Mizzou's AD.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

I am just happy Buzz is staying.  His passing on Oklahoma provides a lot of certainty that he will be here unless a no brainer job opens up.

This.  I'll rest a lot easier every off-season until Texas realizes Rick Barnes can't coach and we're making an Elite 8 run.

Texas and Texas A&M are the jobs to worry about.  Let's hope for much bball success in Austin and College Station.

+1

And if Buzz starts really winning in March at MU, then we also might have to start hoping Bill Self stays happy.

Now that Kruger left UNLV does this mean Reggie Smith is transferring again? lol

Litehouse

I agree with Texas, but is A&M really better than Oklahoma?  I thought I read that Corey's family was from Oklahoma.  If that's true, that's probably more important than where Buzz is from if they're ever looking to relocate.  Texas is really the only one I'd worry about now, and there would be a lot of stiff competition for that job.

I'd worry about A&M if it ever came open..rabid fan base, unbelievably proud/loyal alumni, huge undergrad enrollment, very nice on-campus facilities and Buzz has history there.

And by rabid, you mean "46th in the nation in attendance, with an average of 9,899 tickets sold in a 12,500 seat arena."
Granted, that's better than in BG's first year, when they averaged 6,100, good for 89th in the country.
Nothing against A&M - I'm sure much of what you say is true - but I don't buy the notion that they have a rabid fan base when it comes basketball.

Football first, football second, football third. Basketball a distant fourth.

Football first, High School football second, Spring football 3rd, Football recruiting 4th and Basketball tied with everything else for 5th.

They don't call themselves the "6th Man" in basketball, do they?

He won't look like a buffoon if Kruger ends up winning a bunch of games.

Just like Pat Richter.

Did Richter go for someone else before Bo?  I can't recall.

Rick Majerus.

Oh that's right...and Ben Braun from Cal if memory recalls.

Actually when you consider Shelby Metcalf, Billy G, and Turgeron eras, A&M has a pretty decent basketball heritage. Very nice facilities, too. The biggest reason for the concern of the attractiveness to  Buzz is 1)proximity to his primary recruiting/friendly HS coaches base---E williams, Jimmy B, Fulce, K Bradley, all went to HS w/i 50 miles of the AM campus;  2) Buzz has ties there, not just from days as asst to Blly G, but also coaching in the AM system at its Kingsville campus---AM is the closest school to Buzz' "home", next to MU; and 3) Aggies are a unique breed---the Buzz approach fits perfectly with their ethic, views--A secular old school ethic analogous to that which he likes at MU.

Understand, I am not rumor mongering, or trying to raise any concern. He is signed, and is with us. I simply agree with any who'd say AM is his next best option, to MU,  if it were open, and if they targeted him.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

For the life of me I'll never understand this mentality some have.  So a school struck out on a few guys...so the hell what.  That makes the AD look bad?  Really?  At the end of the day it's the AD's job to make sure his/her department is financially solvent, has a competitive program, is representing the university well in terms of student athletes.  If LK wins at OU, no one is going to say DAMN, IT TOOK THEM 2 weeks to get their guy.  Who the hell cares.

This idea that all these hirings have to be done in 72 hours or someone is going to think it's bad for the school is absolutely ridiculous on all levels.

No one knows who was offered or who wasn't.  It's all speculation.  OU got a good coach with a long track record of winning at multiple schools.  God forbid it took them an extra week...OU will be just fine based on Kruger's track record.  He can earn his 500th win this upcoming year, 13 NCAA trips, a Final Four

AND NO, you don't have to wait 5 years for a guy that established and that accomplish...that's the benefit!!   ;)
