When was the last time MU beat the national champion in the season they won (and on the road!)?

When was the last time the national champion played in Milwaukee in the season they won?  (Not counting 1977)

Uconn played at the BC this year (Jan 25)
Butler played at the Arena this year (Jan 3)

(I don't know the answers, I'm asking)

Dr. Blackheart

I believe it was 1964: MU vs. UCLA at the Milwaukee Classic. MU lost 61-52 at home. MU also lost to Loyola in the 1962-63 season at home by a score of 87-68.

As to beating a NCAA Champion in a season, I could find only one instance--home or away: 1940-41 where MU beat Wisconsin 40-30 in Milwaukee. MU had lost earlier in Madison 38-32. UW beat Washington St. 39-34 for the NCAA Championship.

I didn't delve into the UWM side of it to be fair, assuming their hoops history.

Mr. Nielsen

Butler also played Cleveland State at the Arena on March 5 and versus Milwaukee on March 8.
If we are all thinking alike, we're not thinking at all. It's OK to disagree. Just don't be disagreeable.

So if Uconn wins Monday night, this will be the first time in 71 years (1940) that MU beat the national champion in that season.  And the first time EVER MU beat that national champion on the road.

And regardless of who wins, this is the first time since 1964 that the national Champion played in Milwaukee in that season.

Thank you Dr.

So if UConn wins tonight, since we beat UConn, would that make us national champs??????

Does that combined with our Sweet 16 run make this season banner worthy?

The Man in Gold

We also beat UWM (on the road) who beat the potential National Champs twice....Double National championship!
Captain, We need more sweatervests!  TheManInGold has been blinded by the light (off the technicolor sweatervest)
