With the coaching carousel still in operation it is important to hold our last scholarship.
Recruits can decommit with the coaching change.

Recruits who sign an NLI cannot decommit.  They need to request and sign a release form.  If the school grants the release, they are able to accept a scholarship and participate that school year.  If they are not granted a release by the school, they are required to sit out a year in residence, similar to a transfer.

They can only sign one NLI in a given year.  Thus, if they gain a release from their NLI, they are not able to sign another NLI.

Good point!  Maybe someone will free up that could help us.

I am sure that Buzz will consult you on this.

Would such a year of sitting out be considered their redshirt year as well?

Of course, we could be talking about players who have verballed and planned to sign during the April signing period.

Yes to the first, they would be treated similarly to a transfer if they are not given their release.  Most schools now will grant the release, but some do not (see De Paul as an example).

Second point, correct.  My mind is playing games with me as I was thinking we already had the Spring Signing period.  Don't know why, maybe because it's still too damn cold outside to be spring and has frozen my brain!
