Scroll down to "Freshman Invasion".

MU has offered two in the class of 2014.  Nice start and guess its never too early.

I like Buzz's recruiting style. He watches a ton of kids and offers kids early.

Recruiting the best talent is critical.  Buzz needs to sign the best athletes for the program.  Right now we need a highly talented "big".

I think you could have written this at any point of the last 15 years and it would have been true. And at no point before right now in the past 15 years have we had better bigs at the junior and sophomore level (as of next year) than we do right now.

Best set of bigs since Jimmy Mac and Amal.

Robert Jackson & Scott Merritt was also an excellent combination -- for only one year though. That's what we need, two big guys who can play together at the same time. A legit C and a legit PF. I thought Merritt had his best season when he was able to play next to a real center.

Goose

Tower---Jimmy Mac AND Amal both were long term NBA guys. Who are you talking about as the best set of bigs? I hope you were talking about secret incoming recruits.

tower912

Never a Merritt fan.   So I'll stand by it.   Goose, read it again.   The best since those two.   Not saying they are better, saying best since then.

When Rob was a senior and Merritt was a junior:
Jackson-15 pts 7.5 rebs
Merritt-10 pts 6.5 rebs

If we can get that when Otule is a senior and Gardner a junior I'll be happy.   Merritt was a big recruit for us because he started the hype for Crean at MU and got the fan base excited.  Panned out moderately but Merritt did a lot for the program besides his mediocre to good stats on the court.

Goose

Tower--Jackson/Merritt by a long shot. Was hoping I was missing something. Not even close on these two.

tower912

Fair enough.   Senior/Junior numbers vs. Sophomore/Freshman numbers.   We can revisit in two years.    They will probably still be less, as CO and DG are unlikely to play a lot together, but my larger point is that we are solid at the 5 for the next couple of years.

I know I'm being redundant but I keep wishing we had Junior for three more years instead of two.  Once his jump shot garners respect he will be amazing to watch!  Same with Vander!

Think Merritt/Jackson was a better combination that Otule/Gardner any way you slice it.  The currents guys have time to improve though and win this argument.

People forget Jimmy Mac was a late bloomer.  He did not start our NCAA tournament game (Key was at C and deservedly so) when he was a junior and we were facing Bryant "Big Country" Reeves and Oklahoma State.
