A valiant effort in the loss, a great pic on the front page. Well done, ladies.

I love that pic - Simmons sure is a great shot blocker too - she's one of the few players returning next season as she's only a sophomore.

How else are they going to sell tickets?  What person is going to go to a women college basketball Round of 32 NCAA Tournament game if you don't have a vested interest in either team?  Who is going to travel across the country to watch their women's team play in the NCAA Tournament?  You need to sell tickets somehow.  Even at their homecourt there are plenty of empty seats in that picture.

Apparently that is just how they do it in the Women's game. Wadesworld's opinion is probably correct.

Just wanted to say congrats to the womens program. They held in there with Tennessee, on their home court, which isn't easy to do. They made the MU community very proud.

How about the fact that Depaul, as a 3 seed, was playing on the road at PSU who was the 6?  I'm sure its cause Depaul plays on campus in Lincoln Park in a smaller gym, but thats just garbage.

Kind of devalues some of those National titles UCONN and Tenn have won over the years. Easier to make your way through the brackets if you get to play your first two games at home. Also, there is usually a big gap betwen top seeds and lower seeds. Seems like in the first round everytime i saw a score of a game in process someone had a 25 point lead in the first half.

I think Tennessee is undefeated at home in the NCAA tournament over the years. I can't remember the exact number of games but I think it was a decent amount of games, which makes Marquette performance last night even more outstanding.

To be fair, sometimes UConn has to wait until the Regional to play at home, and sometimes Fairfield hosts so they have to play all the way in Bridgeport.

But seriously, it really is no different than the sweet deal UNC and Duke get playing in NC every year.

Not just the Women's tourny, its in both. Higher seed gets to play near home period. Play well in the season to deserver your seed.

Duke was in Charlotte, NC; Pitt was in Wash. D.C.; Kansas was in Tulsa; OSU was in Cleveland.

In this case, it doesn't have to do with the size of DePaul's gym.  The sites are pre-determined based on bids put in by schools.  But if you host first and second round games you are at home which can lead to unfair situations like 6 seed Penn State hosting 3 seed DePaul.  DePaul is hosting NCAA Women's games next season at All-State Arena.

I think Marquette got screwed with their seeding though partly b/c of the pre-determined sites and the NCAA trying to cut down on travel costs.  They deserved a 7 seed much more than Louisville - I think Lou basically got a 7 so they could put them in Cincinnati - less than a 2 hour drive for them.

The system now isn't great but lots of people complained about the previous way which was the top 16 seeds overall (1-4 seeds) got to host.  There are far too many women's bball fans who are just fans of their team and they just can't support neutral sites now.
