The Big East certainly is not distinguishing itself, and I would imagine the sniping will begin soon.

KipsBayEagle

It already has if you go to any general college basketball board on the web.

If cuse wins big east goes 7-4 in 1st round.

At least 2 teams will make sweet 16.

Overrated my ass.

After Marquette, VCU is my 2nd favorite team. I've been cheering for them ever since I moved to Richmond.

I definitely don't mind them taking out Georgetown!

I agree, not a bad first round at all....

It's all matchups. If St. John's was able to play Tennessee and Georgetown was able to play UNLV, then the Big East would have two more wins. The Big Ten got some real favorable draws in the first round.

That's just one reason tonight was huge, it showed just how well the 11th best team in the conference stacks up to the rest of the national college basketball scene outside the BE. X is a good team that got handled fairly easily.

Just priced a hotel job in Richmond on 4th and Cary.

Nova and Gtown both fell apart and started losing a few weeks ago, so today's results aren't all that surprising. Not sure what happened to Nova. Gtown's pt. guard Chris Wright broke a hand and missed several games. He's playing tonight but has to be far from 100%.

If anything, I'd say the Colonial Athletic was under-rated this season. GM & VCU are good.

We had 11(17.2%) of the 64 team field
As we automatically have 2 in the 16, with a cuse win (12.5%), very possible wins by 2ND, and 1Pitt will jump us to 25% in Sw16-- very doable, and a good result...even if Sir MouthChuck is right on his claim of BE getting less than 5 in (this depends on WVU/UK, of course--did you see Princeton game?...hmm)
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Is this going to cost John Thompson III his job? This will be two years in a row where they will be exiting early. It is either that the Big East is overrated or the tough conference schedule that burns out these teams when it comes to march madness.

So does this win over Xavier finally make us a lock? ?-(

No

See this thread

It was the poll in early January.

Posters were SCREAMING we needed a minimum of 12 BE wins to get in.  (I won't name them, you can click on the link and see for yourself)

So far we have 11 ... 9 regular season and 2 in the BE tourney.

Number 12 could be Sunday against Syracuse.  If we win that game, only then would be a lock.

JTIII has had one good tourney run I think...Sweet 16 (4 years ago when they then lost to Davidson), but since then has lost in the first round of the NIT to Baylor and then been bounced early by Ohio and VCU.

No, he's safe.

Without a healthy Chris Wright, they're not a good team offensively. Haven't won a game since he got hurt.

Um...2007 Final Four??

Milk dud head says Big Easr overrated on pre game

77ncaachamps

By my count,

7 BE
5 B10
3 ACC
3 Pac10
3 B12
2 SEC
2 A10

still survive.

Unfortunately, MU/Cuse and Cincy/UCONN matchups will hurt the BE's chances and skew the argument in favor of the BE critics. Moreover, Nova losing by a few, a strong SJ team getting pasted, a Loserville team underperforming in a loss, and Gtown not being able to put things together weakened the Big East's "dominance" per se.

bahahahahahahhahaahahhahahahahahahahha.

2nd funniest thing I have read all night!

Edit: sorry, I may as well be fair on this one.

His father John Thompson Jr. is a EFFING LEGEND, and probably my second favorite NCAA coach of all time.

Time to read up kids.

Big East doing ok so far, not great, not bad.  Too early to tell.  Big Ten is 5-2 and has the best % in the tournament thus far, but a lot of golf left.

Illinois is going down to KU, and Michigan down to Duke. WI, Purdue, and Ohio State - the cream of the B10 - will advance.

I don't have faith in Purdue being a man down.   I think it is curtains for them on Sunday.

How many BEAST teams will the little 11 have beaten at the end of the day sunday.  0.

Lil 11 will be lucky to have 2 teams left in the tourney at that point also.

I learned long ago that the tournament does crazy things and I'm not going to count any chickens until they've hatched.

As some of the A-10 fans have said tonight

With seeds

1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 9, 11

Anything less than 7 wins would be a complete embarrassment.  By seeding, we should have been 9-2.  We're 7-4 and the 11 seed had to pull that through for the conference.

A lot of golf left, but the conference needs to play better than it did.  The Nova and Ville games were there to be won.  G'Town was brutal and SJU not the same after they lost a key player.
