Plenty of wide open 3's as well.  Just not dropping.  It's not always the defense that is the problem.  Mara was unbelievable against us and his normal self against UCONN.  Frustrating to watch those 3's clang when they went in against us.

Yeah, thats the other part of the problem. No matter what the lack of defense is for us compared to other teams, they always seem to go in against us. And aside from the ND game we never seem to have that game where everything in return falls for us. It sucks. Maybe in the tourney when it matters?
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

We were tired and could not rotate back to the shooter.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

The last two nights the shooters have been defended much better than MU did.  The pick and roll
is not nearly as effective when your big is waiting for Siva on the drive!  Bad defense, MU!

They still have had wide open looks without anyone closing that they are missing.  2 in the last offensive sequence.  They did not miss those on Thursday.

I don't think MU has played a great game yet.  The closest was against ND, but they had a key player missing.  They could be due to have that breakout game...at least I hope so.

Maybe the opposition knows MU's defense is really, really bad and get more confidence and play better as a result?

It's almost like a game of HORSE with how wide open MU leaves shooters.

There is no question that Marquette has struggled significantly at preventing good three point looks this year. The eyes and stats confirm it.

That said, in some games, luck is simply also a factor at times, good or bad. Sometimes you'll face a team that the game before just bricked numerous open jumpers and the next game when you face them, they make a lot of the same shots they missed the game before.

Hell, loook at the game we played vs West Virginia. In the first half they couldn't miss a jump shot. In the second half they were a brick machine.

The same can happen with our guys. Last year DJO was consistently good from three. This year he is much more streaky and Crowder can be streaky. Must be frustrating if a Big East team plays us an we shot good from the perimeter and the next game we shoot something like 3-16 from three.

Sure the kind of defense played impacts that, but so does simple luck/variance that comes with jump shooting.

Marra now 1-7 on threes since MU game.

That's because he's a below average three point shooter. Marra is shooting 29% this year and shot 24% last year, he just shot abnormally well from three yesterday. That kind of stuff happens all the time in college basketball. Remember that big white guy on Seton Hall who was drilling threes from all over the place even though he only averaged 2ppg?

On the flip, side i watched Jordan Taylor make one ridiculous jumper after another vs Ohio St. and Indiana, but yesterday vs Penn St. he was throwing up airballs and bricks off the backboard.

Well stated.  Luck plays into 3 point shooting defense.  Some good, some bad.  The guys still have to make the shots.  Today UL is not.  Against us, they were.  Our defense was not good, but today those same looks are bricks.

I am not defending MU's 3 point defense.  I do not like our rotations and help defense.  But if UL shot on Thursday like they were today, MU would not have been blown out - or at least as badly as we were.
