we lose to Prov and make the tourney?

Lunardi on his chat today says he feels we would still make the tourney at 18-14.

How should we feel?

If we lose to Providence, we will not make tourney. We beat Providence by 24, and they do not play defense. If we lose to them, not only should we be embarassed, but the coaching staff would need to be held big time accountable.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

We should put that annoying backup sound on MUSCOOP when a truck puts it into reverse gear.  We will have backed in if we lose tomorrow and still get in.

Clam Crowder

Wow we are getting alot of love from Lunardi. I really feel that if we go to 18-14 losing our last 3 we shouldn't get in. If we do get in I will have my yellow and blue of the day of our game and seeing our name on selection Sunday will only give me relief that we didn't blow the good work we put in earlier in the year.

babytownfrolics

Should we be proud or embarrassed that there is a thread on a Marquette fan message board asking if fans should be proud or embarrassed of the team if it makes the tournament?

This thread sucks.

Ding Ding Ding. I knew we would have one of these fans drop in eventually. Maybe I should make myself more clear. This thread is for the realistic fans who also have expectations for this team and dont enjoy making the tourney at 18-14 after losing 3 straight.

If we lose to Providence, I'd be surprised if we got in, but not much.

If we beat Providence, I'd be surprised if we didn't get in, but not much.

If we win two or more in NYC, I'd be surprised and shocked if we didn't get in.

Yeah, you get it. But not much. Somebody noted somewhere that there have been a couple of midmajor tourney championships upsets already (George Mason, Missouri State), removing the "opportunity" for teams with weak records in tough conferences, like us.

There are always plenty of surprises and disappointments on the Sunday night before the tournament starts.

willie wampum

Relieved but somewhat embarrassed.

MU does not look like a tourney team after watching the last two games.  And how bad would they have to play to lose to Providence?

That's one way to look at it.  The other way is that this is a thread for entitled fans to whine and complain and anonymously throw a bunch of hard-working college kids under the bus because their unrealistic expectations aren't met.

Exactly. I really dont think we lose. Even if Brooks is much better, the D on Providence is just brutal. Our offense has had games where its struggled recently but those were all against quality defenses. We pretty much scored whenever the hell we wanted against Prov the 1st meeting.

My expectations were 11-7 in conference with 10-8 being acceptable and just fine. An overall record of around last year by NCAA tourney time(22-11), so anything like 20-12 or so would have been fine. Is that unrealistic? If you are a DePaul fan, yes.

thinking 18-14 and 9-10 is good is asinine.

Why not the players?  Why is every bad thing heaped on the coaches only?

The issue isn't whether it's good or bad.  It's whether your expectations are too high to begin with.

StillWarriors

I don't have time to check now, but I wonder if U Conn and Nova's fans are saying similar things given their play of late.

agree.

but then 9-9 would still get us in.

I may have to back pedal on 'very easily' and go with 'easily'

Okay, so let me get this straight. Your conference expectations were 11-7, but you were okay with 10-8, and apparently 9-9 is somehow something to be embarrassed about?

What if we went 12-6, would you go streaking down Wisconsin Avenue, showering everyone with your joy? And if we went 8-10, would you have hung yourself from the top floor of McCormick Tower? I mean, being okay with 10-8 but being embarrassed about 9-9 seems a bit out there. I mean, does that mean the entire season hung in the balance when Louisville hit the late bucket to beat us, or was it when we couldn't get closer than 3 points to Villanova on the road in the final minutes?

If we get into the tournament with a core that includes four JUCO starters and only one other players older than a sophomore contributing (and him a JUCO as well) I think that's something to be proud of.

More blind homer shades I see. No, I said 9-10 idiot. Not 9-9. Right now we are 9-9 and have a chance to win games to make us legit for the tourney. 18-14 at 9-10 is embarrassing. Losing 3 straight is embarassing. Losing to the 12th and 14th teams with a chance to lock a bid, is embarassing. Comprendo?

Neither.
Grown men who aren't directly involved shouldn't feel embarrassed or proud because of what a bunch of 18-21 years olds do on a basketball court.

I've watched every game been to every home game and been frustrated that we haven't won more games like every Marq fan.

But I have never ever been embarrassed by this team.  They have busted their asses to compete in the best conference in college basketball, a league that is the strongest from top to bottom than it has ever been at least since MU joined.

I think you need to stop taking the performance of MU so personally or consult a thesaurus, because a thread basically saying that MU fans are embarrassed even if their team makes the NCAA tournament is PATHETIC.

war1980rior

This is dumb and getting dumber.  I was a freshman and watched my Warriors get into the tournament with a record 7 losses (most ever for an NCAA Champion - at the time).  Sorry, not in the slightest bit afraid to root for my team.  They got there, made the best of it!  You never know ....

I didnt talk about embarassment of the team. I said its embarassing getting a bid under such underachieving circumstances.

Why? Why on earth would that possibly cause you to be embarrassed?
