Anyone know if there was a particular reason he didn't play the first 30 minutes or so? He certainly brought a burst of energy and aggressiveness, and helped close the athleticism gap when he came in. Seemed odd.

Agree with Mickey... that you play to win the game.  The best players play.  It's the way sports are from day one.  The best play period.  When you get an opportunity to play, you have to play hard... shoot to score and simply outplay the opponent.
