You don't have to post the whole thing, but can you tell me is there anything we don't know in here in The OJ Mayo piece?

MarquetteBamaFan

Nothing new really, just states that Marquette seems to be in the lead right now.  Says that Mayo needs a school where he can get up a lot of shots, and with Jimmy leaving that shouldn't be a problem.  The writer thinks Mayo and Juan Anderson are two options to fill Jimmy's scoring role next year.

Mobot

They may replace Jimmy's scoring but it will be nearly impossible to replace his efficiency.

cheebs09

I think Jamil Wilson will also be a prime candidate to replace Jimmy's scoring, at least partially.

I really hope we get Mayo. It sounds like he is pretty underrated and a good shooter.

BCHoopster

Neither of those guys will make up for Jimmy.  Look at the freshman class this year?  Mayo might be 9th or 10th on the
charts and Juan about the same.

Otule, Gardner
Williams, Crowder
Wilson, Blue (maybe Juan)
DJO, Blue, Mayo
Cadougan, Wilson

It will be challenging for them to get PT time, but as
sophs they both might start.

MarquetteBamaFan

I agree that Mayo won't be able to replace Jimmy's efficiency, but look how many games we've lost this year because no one wanted to take over.  I think we need someone to come in next year that knows how to score the ball and isn't afraid to take over at the end of games.  Not saying Mayo is definitely that guy, but it seems like he could be an option over the next few years.

I definitely agree with you.  Mayo does seem to be the type of player that would love to have the ball in his hands with a game on the line.  Very excited about the possibility of landing him.

Not buying that freshman, neither real hgihly rated are going to average 15 points per game.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I don't think it is a "not wanting to take over" issue.  We don't have many good options when it comes to players creating their own shots in a half-court set, and when you combine this with inexperience at point guard, you are inevitably going to look bad.  I mean, JFB has proven that he can hit big shots in end of game situations, but he needs someone to get him the ball.  You just can't give it to him and say "OK, you need to do something here."  He doesn't have that ability.

I think this is why we have seen more of Junior in recent games.  He's getting better and Buzz knows we need a point out there...and not just a combo guard with a shoot first mentality.

Lazar wasn't great at creating his own shot but he had no trouble getting the ball in big spots. Jimmy just isn't that type of player though. He needs plays called specifically for him. Buzz gave Jimmy the ball and cleared out for him last season at UConn and St. John's. I've been waiting for him to have that "gimme the damn ball" mentality all season but, it's not that he doesn't have the ability, it just that that's not his game.

GGGG

Lazar also benefitted from Dom and Mo as point guards...both of whom were much better at this point than either Junior or DB.  But I do see your point.

WellsstreetWanderer

Lazair is getting his own shots now in the Bigs. I watched him score 6 in 9 minutes against the Lakers inluding an impressive drive from the top of the key. I think our half court set doesn't work well around the perimeter and needs the ball to go inside/out for our players to create shots.

NCMUFan

Scary in regards to having to have to give enough shots to a freshman.  Is he a Beasley or Griffin?

Neither, he is closer to a Mayo.
