Heat lose to the Knicks...
« on: February 28, 2011, 11:44:50 AM »
in Miami.

1-7 against top 5 NBA teams.  0-2 against the bulls. 0-3 against the Celtics.  14-15 against teams with winning reccords.

upcoming games: Magic, Spurs, Bulls, Lake rs, Blazers, Memphis, Spurs, Thunder.

If they get out of those 8 better than 4-4 I'll crap myself.

When does 'Chemistry' stop being an excuse?  They can't defend the post.  Can't score in the post.  Don't have a great rebounder.  Can't get a high percentage shot in crunch time.
And they are the favorite to win the title at 2-1.  Which goes to show you that stupid people build casinos.

Casino's set the lines to get equal betting on both sides, that's why teams with a big fan base (Yankees, Cubs, Packers, Cowboys..etc) often have their odds skewed relative to other teams.

Casino odds are set to have the same amount of $ 'for' and 'against', and need to be based on how people will bet as much as the likelihood of the event occurring.  That is why the lines on the "public teams" you listed above are often skewed.

I am not impressed by what I have seen from the Heat.  However, Wade has shown that he is a killer in the playoffs and there is nothing to suggest that won't happen this year.  They are still a favorite to win it, as much as I wised otherwise.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said.

Yes, I agree with both of you on what vegas does.

Hoops,

I think that they run into real problems when the games slow down in the playoffs.

Hoops,

Agreed, though at least Miami plays some defense.  I still like Miami's chances as the second most likely team to come out of the East.  Lebron and DWade are that good.  New York really did give up a lot, and now Landry Fields is coming back to reality on his shooting.  NYK are probably better long term, but an easier out in the playoffs.  ESPN will try to hype them up to drive ratings though, but Chicago, Miami, or Orlando (who is getting hot now) will win that in 4 or 5.

Not sure what would happen in a Chi/Miami second round series.  Last night's Hawks game was a reminder that the Bulls won't always have a ton of firepower.  It's a tossup, but I guess I would lean Miami since they have James and Wade.

I don't think the Perkins trade was as big of a deal as people thought.  They needed an athlete like Jeff Green to cover James (and to some extent Deng actually) and he fills that.  When it is said and done, Doc will likely represent Marquette again in the Finals I think.  I think they beat Miami in 4 or 5 as of today.  Bosh will disappear in the second round and be an afterthought in the Celtics domination of the Heat in the playoffs.

We'll see how teams gel down the stretch and who gets hot.  I don't think anyone should worry about the Knicks though.  What do you say about a team that loses to the Cavs but then beats the Heat?

I still believe the Heat will win this thing in years down the road, not in year 1 or even year 2.  The way the NBA salary cap works, they get a ton of flexibility in the out years and not in the first year or two due to roster exemptions.

The NBA salary cap may be completly different with a lockout looming.

Very true.  From what we're hearing from the NBA, it's going to be a war.

Can you explain this statement?  Under the current rules, I don't think the opt out years really provide any more flexibility to the Heat as they would still have huge cap holds on those guys unless they renounce their rights. A this point, they would basically have only the mid-level and bi-annual exceptions to rely on to build their roster. Of course, as TT said, these rules are almost guaranteed to be dramatically different under the new CBA.

That CBA creates so much uncertainty.  You might see teams having to just trade away players for whatever they can get like the Blackhawks had to do after they won it.

DWade and Lebron just has to work.  They are too good not to win at least one.

It's a message board, I'll state my opinions but I don't keep track of any "feuds." Life's too short for that nonsense.
