Matt Norlander, the author of this gem, has no clue what he's talking about. It's comical how off base he is.

"Then the Big East tournament comes, and surely a win or two over shoo-in tournament teams needs to happen for the 16-11 Golden Eagles to feel secure entering Selection Sunday on March 12." Not our record, and nobody agrees with this analysis.

"Marquette was able to put itself into the conversation of making the tournament once again." I wasn't aware we we're ever out of the conversation. In fact, the lion's share of brackets had us in even before this game. Just a silly sentence.

"Crowder, Butler, Johnson-Odom, they all were of one mind when it came to the final three games of the schedule: being mentally strong and putting off thoughts of the Big East tournament, which looms large over their team's tournament chances, is of the utmost importance." Wrong if they win two of three, they're in. Period.

Did you read the comment on CBS by one of our Big East Brothers (cusemanchild):

How is this team now not in the tourney if they weren't before. If we are going to let teams like michigan and michigan state in, these guys should be a lock.

ESPN article

Read through a few of the comments on that article. Cincy fans upset with ESPN for not covering their win of Gtown, and making a big deal out of our win at UCONN.

Really every team in the top 11 in the BEAST have legit arguments to make the tourney, but will the selection committee really make it happen?
"I don't give a damn if he can't do nothing else. He can shoot, and I love the way he shoots. I don't care if he can't dribble, can't rebound, can't play defense... that kid can shoot the ball." - Tracy McGrady on Steve Novak

I like what was said last night, the Committee doesn't look at what league you're from, but instead looks at the resume. If that really is the case, then yes, the BEast could and should get 11 teams on Selection Sunday. The Big Ten doesn't deserve 5 or even 6 spots in the Big Dance, the ACC is weak this year, and even the SEC. The reality this year is the bubble is very soft and the top 11 teams in the BEast could easily compete in any other conference. Only exception I would make is the Big 12.

I think you protest a bit too much.

By your own admission, not everyone has us in.  As you said, the lion's share do, but not everyone.  By definition, that is not yet secure.

Secure in my mind is not needing a win.  Georgetown right now is secure.  Notre Dame is secure.  Pitt is secure.  These teams could lose out, and they would still get an NCAA bid.  Sure, it would result in a lower seed if those teams lost 3 in a row to end their seasons, but it would not doom their NCAA chances.

3 losses in a row for us would put us out of the tournament.

I don't think Norlander is "comically off base".  He's making the point that we have to actually win some of our last 3 games (including Cincy) at the end of the season to feel secure about a bid.

I believe in that first quote he's assuming we win our last three and still have to win a game or two in the BEast tourney, which is ludicrous.

Agreed. Marquette84, I don't think anyone is saying that if we lose out we are still in. However, if we take care of business and go 10-8, we should be in great shape and at most have to win our first round game in the BET. This guy is making it sound like no matter what, we are going to have to beat a team like Syracuse and maybe even a Villanova just to get in. I think that is wrong. If we go 10-8 and beat two teams above us like that we are looking at a 6 or 7 seed.

As far as those that don't have us in, how many of those have been updated since last night? I think a big road win was the thing on our resume keeping us out of some brackets, but now that we got one we should be in when those are updated.
