Both teams were in talks over Carmelo and according to sources Melo could meet Nets president owner Mikhail Prokhorov over the All Star game Weekend in Los Angeles. However according to Friday, 18 February news both teams have approved the deal and Melo has been accepted by the NJN for a three year $65 million extension. NJN won Melo over their biggest rival, Knicks, who were trying to get Carmelo at any cost. There are also rumors of Carmelo’s meeting with Knicks owner James Dolan over the All-Star weekend.
Nets would also have to release Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Ben Uzoh, Murphy and four first-round picks to Denver in exchange for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Blackman from the Nuggets. However deal is still on halt as Net would sign the trade only if Melo agrees to sign a three year contract with NJN and this could be settled down in the Melo- Mikhail meeting.
Only few days or hours are left and the All-Star break is coming closer and New Jersey Nets have some of the best player in hand like Devin Harris, Kris Humphries, Sasha Vujacic and Jordan Farmar and these players all payers are playing exceptionally well for Net and if Melo joins them it would definitely speed up their restructuring.
