Big Ten with 6? That's going to be a stretch.

Cincinnatti could easily be switched with us at an 8 seed by the end of the season.

How is Illinois an 8 Seed with losses to UIC, Penn State, Indiana, and Northwestern?

Illinois RPI 41, Ken Pom of 20

RPI Forecast has them as a 7 seed

I continue to believe it's more about the good wins then the bad losses.

They beat North Carolina, Gonzaga, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc

Depending on how the rest of the Big 10 season pans out, they'll get 4 or 5.

Locks
Ohio St, Purdue, Wisconsin

Bubble teams fighting for 1 or 2 spots
Michigan St, Illinois, Penn St, Minnesota

Personally, I think the Big 10 gets 4, with the last spot going to Michigan St. Hard to bet against Izzo.

I know rankings are not good, but god damn they got the Big Ten wrong.

So we're someone's cannon foddler?

I know the NCAA is trying to find 64 worthy teams from a pool that's got maybe 36 deserving teams. But I keep saying this, as an 11 seed, we're going to be playing a six seed on the road, probably more than 1,000 miles from the Bradley Center.

How many in this room think we can beat Xavier, St. John's, West Virginia or Texas A&M on the road at a neutral court? Yes, I know, we beat West Virginia early... but that was at home! And St. John's was probably the worst home game we played all year.

I'd like to think we could win this one, but before that happens, I think this team has some major maturing to do. Consistency and patience are two essential virtues for the NCAA and, at this time, Marquette has neither.

Speak up if you disagree!

I think we can beat WVU, St. John's, Xavier and A&M on a neutral court.  I would have the least confidence in beating SJU.  Like MU, those are all flawed teams.  We aren't talking about '75 Indiana here...

Well you are awfully optimistic. We have not beaten anyone on the road worth getting excited about. We have two neutral court losses to boot. If we get in, we willl be one and done.

79warrior - I repeat again - all our road losses are to rpi top 25 teams.  Only 24 teams in the country have won a road game vs. an rpi top 25.

The fact that we lose those games by a few points while most teams lose them by double digits indicates we are a good team away from home.  Take those 6 games to neutral courts and odds are we are 3-3 in them.

I'll take a 50-50 shot against a 6-seed or better.

Maybe. If Minnesota loses to MSU tomorrow they will be 6-9 in the big ten. That's tough to overcome. The loser of tomorrow's game is gonna be hurting.

4 are locks: OSU, UW, Purdue, Illinois. MSU or Minnesota will get in. Maybe both. 5 or 6.

The Illini are not a lock by any stretch of the imagination. They're looking good but if they lose three of their final four, which is possible, they're on the outside looking in. And they're quality wins are few and far between. The Wisconsin win is the only one that really jumps out at you. If we've learned anything from last year, it's that this team inexplicably falters down the stretch and it could very well happen again this year.

Disagree!  What is important to any basketball team?  The NCAA Tournament.  The more times you are in consecutively the better.  Also who assumes it is a guaranteed loss.  Most upsets are the 5-12 or 6-11 variety.  See last year.

I called them a lock because if they get to 9-9 they will be in, and two of the games are home games against Iowa and Indiana. Of course, if they lose out, they will not get in.

So with Gonzaga showing up this week, that means every team to whom MU is lost is currently projected to make the NCAA, with 10 of 11 currently ranked in the Top 25. I continue to find it difficult to be too upset with the way this season has gone. With a decent finish, they will most assuredly get into the tournament.
