"Making the cut for Tokoto is Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Maryland, North Carolina, UCLA, and Wisconsin."

Wow, no Duke. Although they got a very good SF commitment recently. I'm glad we are still in it. He's got a lot of quality choices there.

I don't follow the recruiting trail very closely, but I'd be curious to hear if anyone knows why Maryland is in the mix.  Us and UW are the local schools and the rest are pretty rich in tradition and, with the exception of maybe UCLA, are pretty strong programs right now.

Well, UCLA did go to three Final Fours in the last 5 years.  They have a very good class lined up coming in and should be back to doing some pretty serious business next year.  They're likely to limp into the NCAAs this year considering the remainder of their schedule.

Yes we would all like it if you did move down there, but to an area where they don't have internet or Waffle Houses yet.

Maryland is not really in the mix. Not sure why he felt the need to include us but hes not coming to MD.

With you on the no internet, but you can't wish even your worst enemy a trailer in NC that's not within walking distance of a Waffle House. That's cruel and unusual punishment, man.

Waffle House?....the place everyone misses when they leave the Carolinas now is Bojangles.....it's THE spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner......

He identifies with older coaches. All are 50+ except for Self (who is 48) and Buzz.

Great that we are in the mix, but 8 schools, yet. And UCONN--give me a break.

I hope he does not pull a Joe Wolf.

I know we had a thread last week about the Journal Sentinel not including MU on its home page very often, but this is ridiculous: http://www.jsonline.com/newswatch/116204139.html MU is only mentioned in the list of 8. Give me a break. They couldn't put UW and MU in the final 8 for Falls' junior Tokoto? Its a simple addition of 5 more letters.

UW in the final 8 for Falls' junior Tokoto

Madison - J.P. Tokoto of Menomonee Falls High School, one of the top wing prospects in the nation for the 2012 freshman class, has narrowed his list of potential colleges to eight schools.

They are: Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Maryland, North Carolina, UCLA and Wisconsin.

The information comes from his AAU coach, Ritchie Davis.

Tokoto was among the recruits in attendance to see UW upset then-No. 1 Ohio State, 71-67, Saturday at the Kohl Center.

UW has already secured an oral commitment from Sam Dekker of Sheboygan Lutheran for the 2012 class and expects to have one other scholarship available.

It was posted by the Badger eat writer, in the badger blog. Makes perfect sense.

I didnt see it in the Badgers Blog only saw it from the News Watch feed on the top right corner. Even still though, wouldnt you include MU in it since they are not only an instate rival but also the only other team on the list that you will play every year. doesn't it paint the bigger picture of the importance of this instate recruit?

In case JP is wondering what my opinion is...

1. Marquette
2-6. Don't Care
7. UConn
42. Wisconsin

Is that where Wisconsin falls in your hierarchy or are you reminding us their average PPG.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

It would be great to Watch JP play for Marquette.  He would look really good in Marquette's colors!

Anyone know if JP has any James Taylor on his Ipod?

That's an excellent point and an aspect of this recruitment to keep an eye on.

Every one of those coaches except Buzz is quite accomplished and has won some big, big games. I'm not sure the divide between them and Buzz will be played up on the surface of this story but if Tokoto is pulled in by the sway of Buzz it will really say something about the MU program.

MUfan12

In most cases I'm wary of the role the parents play in the recruitment, but in this case I really think it helps MU. They seem to really like Buzz, to the point of going to games without JP. Hope that bodes well for us.

Not holding my breath, but landing him would be huge.

Yeah...it basically says that we are the local option if he decides to play close to home.  Let's face it, if Tokoto were in NYC, he wouldn't likely be looking at Marquette or Wisconsin.  Don't get me wrong, it would mean a lot because he would have enough confidence in Buzz to afford the luxury of being close to home, but I don't think it means we are going to be going head-to-head regularly with the likes of UNC or Kansas for prospects.

Ari Gold

he could cut the list to four, UW and MU will still be in there but honestly the list is 2. UNC and Duke. He'll only keep the Wisconsin schools on their for state loyalty.

Duke didn't make his top 8.

Duke's not one of the 8...but I think your premise is accurate.  MU and UW are local fall backs...and may end up being a choice should he decide that playing close to home is important.
