ND up big on road at USF
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:24:14 AM »
Wow! 21-3 with 11:30 left in the half!  Shows how it's anybody's guess from day to day how the teams in the BEast are going to play.

Maybe our 16 point comeback against USF was more of a "soul crushing loss" than we think!!

A win is a win, but let's face it, USF is a weak team. Other than their 1 point loss at home to us, which we were extremely lucky on, their last 4 games at home:
Loss to Villanova by 12
Loss to Loserville by 9
Beat DePaul by 11
Loss to Syracuse by 23

We should have won that game by 7 plus points. We did win but did not look pretty doing it. ND is having no problem crushing them.

It was by far the worst we have played all year.   Most other years, it would have been our bad loss.   Instead, it is our ugly win.  So be it.   Move on.

Here's a breaking news bulletin ... everybody struggles from time to time.  Even Al's team struggled on occasion.  That said, good teams win games when they struggle.  Bad teams lose them.  So, what did we do on Wednesday night?  Win or Lose?

Please don't this into thread another whining session about a game that we won??  Please do not offer suggestion for Blue, FT shooting, Junior, Defense, Buzz, BC fans, playing Ewill and JJ, Ox vs CO, recruiting "bigs", fouling when up by 3 and on and on.  Everything that could have possibly been said about this issues, has been said, and then repeated 15 times over.  All that is left to say about these issues is stupid remarks that make the poster look like an idiot.

Love the logic.  We should be national champs every year if we look at it that way.  Cuse beats them by 23 and we beat Cuse therefore we should have beat SF by about 30.

The only idiot is the poster who tries to boss other people around, then lists each and every issue that they don't want discussed just begging for those very issues to come up again.

MU barely beat a Godawful USF team and only because USF has terrible guards who couldn't break a pedestrian press.  Homer was talking about it on his show Thurs or Fri and said the press was nothing special and he's never seen such bad play trying to get the ball upcourt from a division 1 team.  Is beating USF reason to celebrate?  If if makes you feel better, then go ahead.

It doesn't appear he was tryig to boss anyone around or was going out of his way to celebrate. Why do you always take such offense when people try to rid of all the negativity on this board. I really don't understand why people need to beat a dead horse (all of those topics) every single game.

You mean this ....

You must have been listening to another show.  Because while they said USF was not good they were complimentary of MU (hence the name "Homer") and the press.  They spent 75% of the show talking about what gets MU in the tourney and Crowder's 3s.

USF is last in the BE is assists/turnover ratio.  Guess who is second to last .. Georgetown.  So, bring on the "pedestrian press" against the Hoyas!

I don't think out press is that great but it is worth a shot against teams that turn the ball over at a consistent rate. I'm not sold on our press but why not try it until it doesn't work. I don't think it will work against upper echelon teams but it's worth giving it a chance to change the pace of the game and to keep the other team guessing/on their toes and whatnot.

It's ridiculous how some are still hung up on that USF game.  Wow.  We played like sh*t and won, end of story.  Had we played like we're capable of playing, like we have many times this year, we'd have won by 20.

+1

Why is this so hard for some to understand?  We played like crap on Wednesday.  It happens (and will probably happen again.)  Yet we found a way to come from 16 down to win.

Move on please.

Teams struggle. Shocking I know.

Remember, even the '03 Final Four team lost to Dayton, East Carolina, and UAB, and only beat SLU by 4 at home.

On to Georgetown.

Not to mention a 4 pt win over Holy Cross in Round 1...

A very good Holy Cross team that played strong defense, high BBall IQ, etc.  A lot of very good athletic teams can be had by fundamentally sound basketball trams.

Yes, an example of how good teams struggle with inferior opponents.

Come on.  That had much more to do with MU not playing to its potential and some first round jitters than anything Holy Cross did.

Bottom line; that MU team brings their A game vs that Holy Cross team's A game and we win very easily.

So the final four team was not fundamentally sound?

Did you notice how the poster had to build up Holy Cross to legitimize the performance?
