For all the bashing DB takes as a point guard, did you pay attention to the great passes he made to Jae yesterday?  I think Dwight's seeing the floor pretty well.

They were great. I have come around to really liking the swagger and athleticism he brings.

one game does not a point guard make.  people on this board are too reactionary.  Just a general observation.

added: I do think Buycks played great yesterday.  And I think Buzz in general had a great scheme in place to combat the zone.  we had the baseline drop pass working all day.

True, but DB's play over the course of a season does a point guard make. He's only had more turnovers than assists in one game (Duke), is averaging 4.3 apg, and has a 1.84 A/T ratio. He's 10th in the Big East in assists per game, and has the 3rd fewest turnovers among the guys in the top ten.

We all questioned early in the season if he could justify his place as our starting point guard. Look at his stats for the year. The answer is clearly yes.

Per 40 minutes:
Buycks: 5.7 assists, 3.1 TO's
Cadougan: 6.5 assists, 3.1 TO's

Per 40 minutes is about the most meaningless stat ever. Why waste people's time even putting it up? Virtually no one plays 40 minutes in every single game. Look at what people actually do, not what they do in some facetious world where everyone is good to play every minute of every game.

Per 40 minutes:
Buycks: 5.7 assists, 3.1 TO's
Cadougan: 6.5 assists, 3.1 TO's

So Junior is equal in TO's and +.8 in assists.

Per 40 minutes:
Buycks: 13.26 points, 4.6 rebounds
Cadougan: 5.4 points, 3.8 rebounds

Shooting %
Buycks: FG 51.3%, FT 69.2%, 3pt FG 43.8%
Junior  :FG 35.6%, FT 57.9%, 3pt FG 14.3%

So Buycks is a better scorer and shooter by a wide margin and gets .8 more rebounds to cancel out the .8 assists - and he's a better defensive player. I like Junior and think he'll be fine, but the numbers say Buycks is the far superior player at this moment.

Really---then what statistic is meaningful? It compares each apples to apples because the game is 40 minutes. It does not of course take into account who the 40 minutes is against or who you are playing with, but you can't account for those equally. It is not facetious--even pro stats rate PPG per 48 minutes--look it up some time on ESPN.

On Saturday AM, I coached a group of 8th graders in a tournament.  Our 14th guy played the last minute of the game and had a basket.  Let's see...2 points...one minute...

OMG, HE'S A 80 POINT PER 40 MINUTE PLAYER!!!!

You should resign! You clearly don't know how to coach!  :D

But that is not an apples to apples comparison.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

OK, so why not address the complete 40 minute/game comparison between Buycks and Junior that I provided instead of just cherry picking the ONLY stat (assists/40 minutes) where Junior has an edge?

Stretchdeltsig

I enjoy watching Buycks play.  He is very athletic, has a swagger and can score from outside or slashing to the basket or dish it off underneath.  He's go the "it" factor.  We are a better team with him on the floor.  Junior can spell either guard for a few minutes, but, he is not an offensive threat, so he becomes a liability after a few continuous minutes.  And, Vander, is just lost right now.

Let's get to the real issue here - it's a tournament, you're already playing your 14th guy. why are you still scoring?? Shouldn't you be running out the clock or something? Smacks of poor sportsmanship!!

We were losing by about 15 at the time.

Oh don't.  There are oftentimes such bad match-ups in some of these tournaments that we will lose by 15 one game...win by 20 the next.

Sorry Sultan that you are so naive. The stats I have shown are based on 20 some games, not 1 minute of 1 game. Of course you probably did not have any graduate level statistical courses to make you realize that--you would rather use hyperbole.
But keep being classy!
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I used hyperbole because anyone can cherry pick stats to come up with something.  But look at this.

http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Marquette

Buycks is ahead of Junior in every kenpom statistical category.  His offensive rating is higher (112 v. 89).  His assist rate is higher (25.9 v. 24.8).  His turnover rate is lower (24.0 v. 32.4).

Furthermore his defensive rating is better too.
