They had him on the phone with Gary Walters (quite an arrogant guy) and he rolls off how they finished ahead of MU and Villanova in the conference so he doesn't understand why Syracuse didn't get in. Thought he might point the gun outside the confernce instead of within. Boheim cites 4th toughest BE record (MU had 2nd toughest), win at MU (w/ banged up Matthews and McNeal), and 10-6 record (same as MU), and 4-4 road record (same as MU). Claims they played tough non-conference schedule, though MU's was tougher.

Tommy Brice for Coach

He's right. They compare to us in many ways and they didn't get in. Thats a snub if I have ever seen one.

Norm

Then question teams like Purdue, Arkansas and Illinois, not teams in your own conference.

NavinRJohnson

That's not what he was saying. I no way did he say MU and VIllanova shouldn't be in, but rather that Syracuse should have been in based on how they stack up to those teams, finishing ahead of them in conference, etc.  - and he was right.

They should definitely be in, but comparing to other teams in the conference is just wrong in today's age of unbalanced schedules.

A 10-6 record for one team is not the same for another.

The fact Indiana got a 7 is a disgrace (I say that as an Indiana alum)...Duke as a 6...Syracuse not in, Purdue a 9 seed (WTF).  I mean it's just zany as all get out.

PuertoRicanNightmare

Seeds are not what they appear. Don't forget, the committee has to avoid matching up conference team in the first couple rounds.

That said...that Duke seed is just glaringly bad.

I think Syracuse should have been in, but their out because of their non-schedule scheduling and Boeheim knows it.  For the last few years, they have scheduled only home games against poor non-conference opponents.  Instead of acknowledging that, Boeheim is whining about his comparison against conference foes b/c he doesn't want to make the non-conference schedule the issue.
The sad thing is that Syracuse is better than teams in the NCAA including Illinois and Purdue, but they didn't prove it b/c of their scheduling.  Their arrogance cost them.

Did you know that nearly 1/3 of the at-large teams have weaker non-conference schedules than Syracuse?

122 Syracuse

128 BYU
130 Vanderbilt
141 Texas A&M
145 Louisville
149 Indiana
160 Georgia Tech
175 Virginia
181 Southern Cal
183 Texas
309 Notre Dame
310 Washington State

I don't think he was saying 'Cuse should have gotten in over MU and 'Nova, I think he was making his case that 'Cuse beat both those teams (who obviously in) on the road.
