Clam Crowder

I am a student here who follows this board, and I can't believe the negativity of some of the posters on this board. I also can't stand some of the alumni who sit behind the visitor's bench who just sit there and don't give Calhoun any crap when he is whining about every call. You complain about the student section, about Buzz, about young top 100 players. We haven't had back to back recruiting classes like this ever so stop acting like u know how these guys develop. Fab Melo...How is he doing? Losses are gonna happen, but to see you guys praise Buzz one week rip him the next, and praise Junior one week and dis him the next is pathetic. This year wasnt supposed to be what it has been. We have done better than many expected. We have only lost to ranked teams...How can you guys give up so soon? pathetic. NIT be damned, were going to beat Syracuse. The guys say to learn from experience and yet we have all experienced it with them and we haven't learned anything. Stop complaining.

JMcSteal

people are just venting after another frustrating loss, will still love the team tomorrow or the day after

I agree. This year isn't what it was supposed to be. Back to back stud recruiting classes. Jimmy and DJO with a year to develop. A near-clone of Lazar Hayward. This team should be 16-5 and 6-2 in conference. I hope you're right about Syracuse, but I haven't seen anything to indicate we will do that. Especially not a Syracuse team that will come in very ornery with their current run of play. Our only possible saving grace is that they seem to be on a crapslide.

Norm

Haven't had back-to-back recruiting classes like this ever before? Okay, if you say so. How productive have these two classes been? My beef has not been about the young guys but whether or not Buzz is actually developing them.

VanderBabyBlue

I expected a win tonight, but on the heels of another collapse, I would be shocked if we beat Cuse...and it'd be for the first time ever.  Look for Cuse to right the ship this weekend at the (morgue like) BC.

Yes, you are a youngster. Once upon a time, Marquette had REAL blue-chip recruits every year. Usually, a couple of them.

Clam Crowder

Buzz is starting to be frustrating to me too. Jae is no clone of Hayward...Jimmy is no leader like Hayward. On a fast break like that one Crowder had tonight Lazar wouldve slammed that down and the place wouldve went nuts. He is no clone of Zar. Next year maybe hell be that guy. Jimmy and DJO have been studs, but losing Acker and Cubi and replacing them with Buycks and Jr. Def a downgrade IMO. Buycks was a 1 yr player and Jr. played how many games last year? No way in hell was this team supposed to 16-5...With our schedule we would be in the top 15 with that record.

We're 2-7 all time versus Syracuse.

We haven't beaten them since joining the Big East.

mu_hilltopper

Additionally, jhags .. you aren't paying attention if you think there are some who sing praises one week, change their tune the next.   People are pretty consistent in their views, in that, there are some who have been optimistic about the team all year, others who have not.

As we have performed this past month, more people are getting off the optimistic wagon.

Clam Crowder

Yeah I guess I am starting too but I figured I would make a last stand. It's frustrating as hell

We would be, and we should be. We should have won tonight. We should have beaten Louisville. We should have been able to get one stop at Vandy. And frankly, we should have defended home court against Wisconsin and beaten an awful Gonzaga team. But I'd settle for 3 of those 5. Instead we got zero. Why is that? I don't know. Are the players not tough enough? Is Buzz not a good enough game manager and technical coach? Do we not have any leadership or grit guys willing to take the reins down the stretch? I don't know. But the bottom line is that the talent is there and we should have won at least 3 of those aforementioned games.

MU Ted

agree with brew. talent is there, effort is there, they just don't know how to finish out the games.

ken8406

They have not found a go to guy yet. Which hurt their ability to finish games. 2nd half of the UCONN game when MU took the 5 point lead it looked like Butler would be that guy. But he did not step up and call for the ball and instead it turned into Vander and Junior drives. They need a guy with a killer instinct to finish the games.

But is the talent REALLY there? Just look at the contribution of UCONN's freshman vs MU's freshman (which bodes ill for next year).  Butler, Crowder and DJO are above average players, but not more than that, imo.  The center position is a zero talent-wise.  And Buycks is overall an average college basketball player and below average point guard.

I just don't see the great talent that others do.

MU Ted

"great" talent, perhaps not.  talented enough to be competitive in games against ranked opponents, obviously.
talented enough to get over the hump and win the difficult games in crunch time?  not so far.

i guess i'm just not as pessimistic as some.

ken8406

To be honest Marquette really had not business winning the game. UCONN was taller, longer, more athletic, and have Kemba Walker. I know Kemba did not do anything but the affect of him on the court caused Marquette to guard him as a team which put stress on the defense and gives them many opportunities for good shots.

MU Ted

yes, ken, but according to the rest of the board it was only our poor coaching and lack of toughness that led to the difficult loss.
it's not a tough game or tough league. we should win every game handily regardless of the opposition.

MU Ted

and bad freshmen, too.  sorry i missed that.

Clam Crowder

Yeah it isnt number 5 in the country. it wouldnt have been a huge win...

ken8406

BC is a crap hole it is a horrible venue for a college basketball team. The arena has way too much concrete and the sound doesn't travel well at all.

Marquette Fan in WI

Eventhough it was a close game, I think that fans have seen this before and didn't want to get their hopes up.  Now it is at the point that the team has to give you something to cheer for, the fans can only take you so far, the team has to start performing.

MUfan12

Couldn't believe some of the stuff I heard in the upper deck today from MU "fans." And this stuff is being yelled at our guys.

Vander misses a FT, and a guy wants him back at Madison. Cadougan turns the ball over and he should transfer. My personal favorite, is getting on Buzz for "not coaching at all" and later saying he should be fired.

Every program has a down year. If this is our down year, so be it. The level of success MU has had in the BE is only matched by a couple programs. We're all frustrated this year, but the lack of perspective from our fans is disappointing. These aren't pros. They're good kids that are still busting their asses. And people turn on them on a freaking dime.

I'm starting to really dislike what our fanbase is becoming.

kryza

The problem is that this team isn't bad, and fans are just frustrated and trying to rationalize why we aren't winning games.

I don't know of another team in the country that has outplayed more elite caliber teams than MU. It's just unfortunate that we haven't figured out how to outplay teams for 40 mins. But when we do (hopefully this year), the sky is the limit for this team.

Yeah, sometimes 3 or 4. And back then, the Coach did not make a million zoides a year.

This is Buzz's team--these are all Buzz's players, they are his asst. coaches. he is accountable. Now in these times, you are paid to win conference titles, get to the dance and occasionally go deep in the dance.

Please wake me up when any of those happen.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."
