Boy our  frosh were really impressive tonight. VB finally had his break=out game.  Was tremendous from the field and line.  On D, he only got beat a few times.  Very impressive on going to the basket and not making the shot and then throwing up a 3 that was not even close.  But at least he looked good  although
not quite as good as the UConn frosh but style points count don't they?  After ND, I started a post about VB's lack of production , as well as his fellow frosh, and was roundly told I didn't know what I was talking about.  Glad that was cleared up tonight.

Loved the way, our guys handled the loose balls.  No one went to the floor but then again no one got on them for their lack of toughness. When was the last time a MU team was this soft?

Lots of the jump shots hit the front of the rim which the classic sign of tired legs but I'm sure our depth( weren't we told the we had the deepest team in a long time and would go 9/10 deep) will come out  against CUSE to give the regulars must needed rest.

A team of PU$$IES who can't man up and respond when other teams make late-game runs at them.  BTW I hope guys from the team do read these message boards and take it personally that everyone is questioning their toughness, cuz it sure hasn't been shown even once this year.  Hell they even layed down to UWM but were lucky enough to hang on!

Wow do I disagree with this. We are tough, the guys play hard, never give up, but have been mismanaging games at the end. That's not a lack of effort. I do have some concerns about the way our coaches are managing us at the end right now but I haven't ever questioned the guys' heart.

That said, I do agree with the previous, albeit sarcastic, post. I've been saying for quite a while on here that VB's shot is a serious concern. He isn't even close, his FT's are a crap-shoot at best, and his production, as a result, has seriously dropped off. Not to mention that he may some poor decisions on fast breaks that weren't there. I like him a lot and he's going to be good as the years go along but he has a lot of work ahead of him. HIRE SOMEBODY TO REVAMP HIS SHOOTING FORM IN THE OFFSEASON AND START OVER.

MU is anything but tough, imo.

If they were tough, then someone would take the reigns and step up to make the big play at the end of a game like Louisville, ND or UCONN.  Instead, the whole team disappears the last 5 minutes.  This is a mentally and physically weak group of players and the coach just isn't good enough at his job to manage them through tough situations.

There's a difference between being tough and being a punching bag. Just because you keep getting up off the mat doesn't make you tough. You have to actually fight back. When the other team starts swinging and the game is on the line, we don't fight back. We just stand there taking the punches, hoping against hope that the next one isn't the knockout blow. But if you can't swing back and put the other team down, eventually one of those shots is going to finish you off.

Perhaps we have different definitions of toughness.  Does the team play hard? For the most part, yes, but definitely not to the extent that Dickie was preaching towards the beginning of the game.  Not to say I don't love being perceived as the team that will "scrap" and "claw" and "never give up".....so long as we live up to it, and this team simply does not, at least not to the extent we have become accustomed to.

Toughness is what wins close games, and this team continues to prove time and time again that they cannot do that.  They are weak physically and mentally.

Can they get a basket when they absolutely have to have one?  Nope
Can they get big rebounds?  Nope
Can they make clutch free throws?  Nope
Can they get stops when they must have them?  Nope
Can they respond when a team makes a late-game run at them?  Hell no.

All of these are things that teams that are mentally and physically tough are able to do when they pressure is on, and until MU learns to do them, they are not tough.

Point taken.

I see them play hard but yeah at some point that has to translate into finishing off a game and finishing off a team.
