It really f'ing ridiculous.  How the heck do they fall apart every damn game?  I don't know how any fan can watch any game with MU up by 10 and not expect to lose.

Surest bet in America that Marquette will fall apart late in the game.  Unreal...

marquette09

Kind of felt this would happen when we got up by 5 late

Niv Berkowitz

Ten minutes between field goals in the second half. Unbelievable. Up 5 w/11:25 to go. Next field goal w/1:25 left.

Keeping my expectations for this season in check and understanding that it's a rebuilding year with an inexperienced team...this is still pissing me off.

Kind of a lost year at this point.  Hope the experience pays dividends next year
No Finish Line

The collapse all started again with a lazy possession ending with a forced shot (Buycks, I believe) after doing nothing for 33 seconds. I'm ok with working it around, but have a plan with 10 seconds to go. I agree, this team is completely frustrating to watch.

Not to throw the towel in by any means, but at some point I'd like to see guys like Williams and Ox start to get some time to at least get their feet wet. The guys out there now aren't getting it done.

Don't know if it will, our seniors take a lot of minutes.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

This really is true.  Haven't we seen this before.  We get in a race grab the lead.  Slow the game down, put up bad shots.  The other team continues a fast pace to get the lead.  The other teams SLOWS the pace down.  Runs an effective offense with their playmakers.  We continue to play slow (God knows why... we are only losing with the clock against us... why we decide to let the other team dictate the pace at this stage is beyond me) and we are down by more than two possession with 1:30 left.  SAME TIRED STORY.  Is Buzz watching the tape?  Is he not seeing the same pattern we are all seeing?

Does any team in America miss more lay-ups/no-footers?  I've resorted to DVR-ing the games so now I can just watch the second half collapses in fast forward.

It definitely sucks guys - but let's try to maintain some perspective hard as it might be - UCONN is the #5 team in the country.  Notre Dame is pretty good this year and we split.  West Virginia was no slouch.  Think the LVille game was just crushing..as there is a difference between being 5-3 and 4-4 for sure.

It definitely sucks being ahead by 5 or 12 as was the case tonight against UCONN and the other night against Notre Dame - but there was over 10 minutes left in both games..and lots can happen.  But yes, the 13-0 run tonight was hard to stomach..having said all of the above.

Agree. Buzz being a numbers guy has to see this pattern.

When Butler hit the two free throws to put us up 60-55, there was 7:33 left. Then the 13-0 run. Not like blowing 18 & 12 pt second-half leads, but it's still pretty bad.

Unfortunately in tonight's game, the way I saw it - we started trying to run plays/sets to get the ball down low to Jimmy or Jae and try to ride them to a victory - as Jimmy did get hot and help us to that lead - though much of his points came off of other motion action...

I don't think we "took the air out of the ball" tonight intentionally as we were doing in the Lville game..but more got more concerned about trying to run more set plays than our standard motion offense with quick ball reversals and penetrate/kick action..

I hear ya... but when do we try a bit of a different approach.  Why is this coaching staff pull back the reigns at the 5 minute mark?  Its become so clear to me that our team loves to play fast and with passion.  They look so much looser when we play uptempo.  So let's keep the pace up.  Lets try that approach.  You know... the approach that got us the lead.

9-9 is a definite reach at this point, i dont care how "tough" we are if we don't win games. You can be the toughest team in the nation but it doesn't mean anything if you don't win. We don't get a reward or championship for being tough...

Looking like we got a long road ahead

Newflash.... what makes anyone think this team is tough?? Because Buzz says so??? SO many things point to this team being exactly the opposite.... terrible transition defense most of the time, never diving on the floor for loose balls, blowing games down the stretch.... if this team is tough then I'd really hate to see us not being tough in these same situations

JMcSteal

haha, oh i hear yeah, but just about every announcer has to point out how "tough" we are, and how tough we play and never give up

brewcity77

Tough isn't getting punched in the mouth and standing there to get punched in the mouth again. Tough is getting punched in the mouth and punching right back until the other guy goes down. I'm still waiting to see tough from this team. They showed it once against West Virginia. That's it. 20 games where we weren't tough, 1 where we were. I'm sick of hearing tough. Tough teams don't end up on the mat every time the game is close. Tough teams win. Last year's team developed toughness. Hopefully this team can do the same. But thus far, they haven't shown many signs of being tough. Beat Syracuse in a close game and follow it up by doing the same on the road at Nova and maybe they'll start to be tough. Anything less than that and they're just another punching bag waiting to prove they can throw one back.

actually, Buzz signaled to Buycks (with the ball) and company from almost mid-court to 'stretch it out' right after Butler put us up 5..., at the 7:30 mark in the game.  That's why they took the air out of the ball intentionally.  We stopped trying to score, and started trying to eat clock!  With a 5 point lead!

MU Halfcourt offense = Stagnant
same every time. Swing passes and high screen leading to tough drive or contested rushed shots.

leever

--Why do we lose every loose ball?  I don't see anyone on the floor diving for them

--Same question for rebounds.  OK, we're not generally as tall, so we will lose some rebounds.  But what about those that are 'up for grabs'?  Every time there is a rebound batted around, we lose it.

--Normally, it would be a good thing when the opponent is in foul trouble, but I dread the minute that we get into the 1-and-1.  Missing the front end does not help!

--UCONN has some long interior players who contested everything inside, but what's up with the missed layups?  Not the ones that were blocked - the ones that we just missed.  Lots of points left out there.

Stretchdeltsig

it's frustrating to watch because of the lousy coaching.  Buzz sat out our best offensive and defensive players in the second half.  It seems that he doesn't want to win this year.  It is very hard to watch.  What is wrong with Buzz???
