"That ones on me... Horrible game. Nobodys fault but my own. I'll be better on Tuesday and every other game. My fault team and fans..."

WellsstreetWanderer

sadly his missed shots in the second half sunk us. Were he to have made any we are in the game. that said he was out there trying nd didn't give up

Lennys Tap

So much more class than some of our "fans".

Daniel

Very classy kid.  He got jobbed on some no-calls that would have helped him and hte team.

Hats off to JFB.

Absolutely love the class.  Before seeing this all I was thinking was that I couldn't remember jimmy blowing so many easy opportunities.

Reading this though, I love the tim tebow like, I blew it and it won't happen again" attitude.

Let's go get uconn, then still need to pull out 1 of 3 tough road games.

You MU etch his speak, er, Facebook post into stone and put it in the lockerroom?  ;)

Character.

Sure, but I wish he'd realize he needs to step it up during the game and not when it's after an unnecessary loss.

And it wasn't just the missed offensive opportunities.  Butler's defense was atrocious.

If MU wants to accomplish anything this season, Butler has to show some leadership and be "the guy" at times.  He's the Senior and it does no good to be so passive and always waiting for someone else to make the big play.  The guy hit some huge shots last season.  There's no excuse for being so tentative this year.

Jacks DC

He had a bad night and he knows it.  Dude has hit so many big shots for us I can't criticize him.

 Butler's defense was atrocious.
It wasn't good tonight, but he was stuck on Hansbrough too much.  We switch on D way too much and too many times tonight we saw Butler trying to defend guards and Cadougan getting beat trying to guard a forward on the low blocks.

Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Has anyone made a Butler shirt yet?

I thought there was a "Butler Did It" shirt...but nothing with the J-F-B?

Can't pin the loss entirely on JB's shoulders, but taking responsibility after the fact doesn't mean much to me. It's just empty words -- especially, given that this wasn't the first loss he's performed poorly in.

ChicosBailBonds

Solid young man.  He had a tough one, time to move on to the next one.  Win as a team and lose as a team.

Very tough 3 game stretch coming up.

Agreed.  He clearly doesn't realize that he needs to step it up and play well during games.

Jimmy - Ed Hightower is to blame.  He took us out of our game

Please stop blaming the refs- I don't like Hightower either and I do agree that MU getting into foul trouble while not getting any calls while taking it to the hoop in the 2nd half did have an impact on the game but it is not why MU lost. Marquette failed to score effectively against the their zone and could not get any defensive stops to break the Irish momentum.  As much as Ed Hightower blows, having calls go against you (as well as no calls) is to be expected on the road and better teams rise above it.

Butler did have a poor second half and he is a man for stepping up and taking his share of the blame. Maybe, just maybe, the Coach should have pulled him for a while--he played 39 minutes.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Butler did look winded a few times.

Ridiculous = 36 vs. 18 FTs

Stated as if we've never been on the opposite side of this type of imbalance.

Notre Dame is ranked #2 in the Big East in fewest fouls committed per game, and tied for 18th nationally. By comparison, MU is 6th in conference, and 52nd nationally. In terms of attempts, Notre Dame also leads us in the number of FTs attempted per game, and they are in the top 10 nationally.

For some reason, fans here seem to think we're the only team in the nation that normally makes more FTs than the other team attempts.

In Notre Dame, we faced an opponent that adheres to the exact same approach, but is statistically better at it than we are--even more so if you adjust for SOS.

Time to stop blaming the refs.

Ridiculous is watching a guy from 35 feet out come in untouched for a cleanup slam.

Ridiculous is watching layup after layup after layup as our defenders do nothing to lay down the law other than a reach in which is often going to get a call.  That Hansborough dunk on the baseline was a prime example.  The guy totally blew by JFB and no one was there to crush him to the ground.  Nothing.

In our goal to "shoot more free throws than the other team attempts" we have become wicked soft because we are so scared to foul anyone.  No one fears going into the paint or to the rim against MU because we don't lay down the law.

That's what is ridiculous.

The ref blaming is a joke.   If you want to blame the refs by using simple free throw disparity, then every team we've played this year has a right to bitch since we take far far far more free throws than our opponents.

Very well said.

Only thing that bothers me about the refs yesterday was the 5th call on Crowder. I turned the announcers off, but apparently the foul should have been called on Butler and not Crowder...is that right?

This is 100% correct.  We need to learn to use fouls strategically, not to avoid them like the plague.  I don't want us to turn into the Pat Riley Knicks, but we need to put someone on their ass early in the game to make them think twice about driving to the hoop.  I said this during the Vandy game when we were getting torched early in the game with dunk after dunk.
