Kind of tired reading about should Buzz be fired, our meltdown, and other bad news.

Does anybody out there have any inside info on recruiting news/rumors? I think we have 2 scolarships for next year and if both used one for following year.

There does not appear to be much BEast type talent remaining for next year, so what might be happening?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Would not surprise me if we bank one of the two scholarships available for the 2011 class, and bank it for 2012.  With the Ferguson commit, that leaves only one open for 2012 - and we know JP Tokoto is a top target, but also know that Phillip Nolan is a 2012, and that there will be an emphasis on getting a big in 2012 as Otule will be a senior and DG a Junior.

We have been rumored to be involved with Todd Mayo a high scoring shooting guard for 2011, as well as J'Arion Henry, a 6'8" wing, Kevin Thomas a 6'7" forward, and God's Gift.  Probably will come down to what Buzz thinks is most essential to add to next year's team - shooting or rebounding?
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

Schollie won't be banked.

Agreed.  Buzz does not seem to have the type of personality that would bank one.

Unless JPT committed to us in the next month, then he might consider it...emphasis on might.

If we have a transfer this spring, I could see us using 2 scholarships for 2011 and banking an extra one for '12.

Marquette84

After having 14 players for 13 scholarships over the summer, we're currently playing just 7 deep.  We were playing just seven deep last year as well. Between injuries, transfers and kids who haven't earned the right to play, it would be a mistake to leave a scholarship unfilled.

Making a conscious decision to self-impose a scholarship reduction just doesn't make sense.  Buzz seems to agree.  One need only look at the 2008 (took McMorrow late) and 2009 (took Mbao late) to see Buzz's philosophy on banking scholarships.

Worst case is if we wind up toward the end of the spring signing period with a scholarship still available, Buzz will take a speculative player similar to McMorrow or Mbao and give them a year to prove themselves.  If they don't work out, they'll be part of the 40% that is a normal part of college basketball.

I also can't see banking it. Remember last year with all the injuries, it was a big deal getting Junior back just so we could go 5-on-5 in practice. My guess is Buzz probably has a big in mind, possibly God's Gift, then does just what 84 says and give a shot to the best big prospect he has. Best case, he finds a legit prospect that we can build with, worst case you move him on in hopes of landing Nolan or Stokes.

what about singleton getting one of those schollies?

Rosiak says it's highly unlikely.

God's Gift has been thrown around quite a bit, but I haven't read much about our recruitment of him, other than we're involved with him (like St. Johns and others). Does anyone know if we're on his short list?

SaveOD238

If Jereme Richmond from Illinois decides to transfer (though he shot down the rumors today) we should make an effort to grab him.  He's a switchable type (6-7, 205, listed at G/F), All-American in high school, and fairly local (from Waukegan).  I saw him kill my high school in sectionals as junior with a last second shot.  The kid can ball, but has a boatload of talent ahead of him at Illinois.

Was this in a chat?  I don't remember reading this in his blogs.  Thanks

If we have one open, he can take it for one year.
