Nice game against number 22UCF...17 points 9 boards and 4 assists..damn..looking more and more like he's gonna be a very good player.

Well it certainly wasn't his fault he's not here.

Yes, we would've have certainly won if DJ Newbill was in the rotation today.

Certainly?  So YOU'RE the one with all the facts?  Tell me the facts.

If the hypocrisy wasn't so fully expected, it would be shocking.

I think he was being sarcastic.

I'm pretty sure Chicos wasn't being sarcastic as he's made it very clear that he blames Buzz for Newbill's release.

I don't care to get caught up in who's fault it is he's not here, but it's safe to say it's a bad thing for MU that he isn't.  We could definitely use his diverse offensive game and rebounding.

I don't - I think he strongly believes it.

Why do I have the feeling if he was here he'd be riding the pine and we'd be talking about how he doesn't know how to play defense. That seems to be the common refrain.

If he was only posting scoring numbers I may agree with you, but he's rebounding very effectively with over 6 per game.  That alone is enough to get you pt.

I'm not sure about that. Would Newbill get time ahead of Buycks and DJO if they were at Southern Miss instead of here? Would Vander be able to get 14 ppg and up his rebounding numbers if he were down there? I think Newbill is a good player, but the talent level between us and USM is pretty vast as is the level of our opponents. I'm not sure he'd see much time here, no matter what he's been able to do there. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

I agree it's tough to say and speculative at best, but at his size he cetainly fits the mold of a switchable and coul fill in at  a few spots.  Looking at his year totals I find it hard to believe he wouldn't be contributing.  He's a good shooter from the field and at the line, and he can rebound.

Yeah, it is acommon refrain with a lot of the Kool Aid drinkers. How good was our defense in the last 5 minutes of the game yesterday?

I disagree and I think the coach would as well.

His mantra is toughness and defense earns playing time, right? Newbill has shown he has both qualities in abundance.

He wouldn't be playing 25 minutes but he'd be a strong energizer off the bench when we need a lift. Other than Fulce, our bench has the punch of a drunk Freshman at her first frat party. Could always use more energy.

Somebody that can shoot?

Somebody that can rebound?

Yeah, he would have gotten playing time at MU.

Well, the kid obviously didn't want to be here, so it's a moot point.

Iowa State beat Baylor yesterday as well, 17 points by Christopherson on 5 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc.

He's already made 54 threes this year.  To put in perspective, we only have one guy over 25 and that's DJO at 33.

If we had issues scoring the basketball his loss would hurt more, but that's really not an issue.

Who's he gonna replace on the floor though?  DJO, Jae, Buycks, and Butler all rank ahead of him in Offensive Rating, and he doesn't play defense as well Vander.  Any gain you get from Scott in three point shooting is negated by the lack of 2 pt field goals (limiting the flexibility in the offense), lack of assists (even Butler has more assists), worse rebounding (than even the weak rebounding on this MU team), and no improvement on defense.  I'll take the guys we have, thank you.

17 points and nine rebounds are more than EWill, Devonte and Jamail will contribute all BE season

It should be pretty clear to everyone that Buzz launched the wrong incoming freshman to make room for Wilson. Shoulda kept Newbill and rescinded Smith.
