Hey, I'm the prototypical half-empty glass guy, and no question, Buzz and the guys gagged the mother of all gregorys today, but it'll be OK. One of these days, the tide will turn and we'll be the recipient of these debacles and not the giver. Buzz does need to learn and continue to recruit some cats who can board, D up, and shoot it, traditional or not. No time better than now to pay back DePaul and continue to kick ND in the heritage.

In other words:  Some days you're the dog, some days you're the tree.  Today we were the tree.

Sounds like the alcohol has kicked in. Good for you. Bartender, i'll have what he's having.

We have a ton of talent and good coaches.  Unfortunately we don't play very smart at times and that can be mighty frustrating.

They will bounce back but you hate to crap games away like the guys did today.

Normally I feel like that chicos but today's game really sticks in my craw. Probably because of what it would have meant for the fans and the team to have beaten two ranked teams in one week. The momentum would have been so great. You are right but this one is bumming me out as much as last year's Washington game. Trying to remember that, unlike that one, this one is not season ending.

Now pass the bottle.

This team will be alright.  Yeah, its a game that we f'ed up in the last 5 min but we played 75 darn good minutes of basketball this week against ranked teams.  Its January, the important thing is how the team is playing in March.  Defend the home court, beat the teams that we are suppose to beat and we will be in the NCAA tourney, and that is the only thing that really matters.   This team has the talent to beat almost anyone on any night....soon enough we will win these close games.

Maybe it's just me still being a bit bitter, but isn't it more about if the team is playing in March? We have the talent of a tourney team, but not the resume. We tossed out chances for road wins at Louisville and Vandy. We've missed countless chances for quality wins, only getting one over a rival on home court. Beating UL would have put us in prime position to make a run at a top 4 spot, but after DePaul, we could easily drop 4 straight.

Bottom line, it may only be January, but what you do in November, December, and January matters. And if what we do is keep shooting ourselves in the foot, we'll be NIT bound come March. We must beat DePaul, and we must win at least one of the four after that, probably two, to really be in good position. We can go 11-7 in the Big East with ND at home as our biggest win. If we do that, we'll be squarely on the bubble come Selection Sunday. We needed yesterday to prove we actually belong and pave the road for a great season. Instead, we've blown 6 of our 7 chances at quality wins. That doesn't exactly look good on a resume, regardless of margin of victory.

To get into the dance at this point we will need the following at minimum: 11-7 in BEast; no bad wins; and at least two more quality wins from among: ND, UConn, St. John's; and possibly GTown. Minimum of 2; 3 would solidify it. Tall order!
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

brewcity77

Agreed, Willie. 11-7 alone won't be enough. We need more quality wins.

And we had just started to get some very positive national buzz with wins over WV and ND.  If we would've held on yesterday we would've built up some very nice equity.  Instead we pissed it away.

No Finish Line

I would be surprised if we don't get in at 11-7, so long as we don't have any bad losses i.e. DePaul.  11-7 would give us a favorable matchup in the first round of the BET which we would probably win and then give us another chance for a quality win in round two of the BET.  So, assuming we go 1-1 in the BET I think we are in with a total of 12 BE wins.  It is also important to remember that there are three more at large bids this year.

Protect the home court, split on the road and live to play in March.
