Great Player...But Glad He's Gone

Mbawke was in jail for sending a message on fb to an ex who had a "No Harassment" order against him.  Minnesota said they will not dicipline him and I thought that was BS.  Then I read the message...

"I know we haven't talked in forever and trust me I'm not trying to start any drama with nobody in your life or anything. I just wanted to wish u the best with everything and I hope all has been well with you and your family. I am still disappointed how everything played out and I do wish that in the future we could be cool again. Idk how u r going to take this msg hopefully its not bad but I just wanted to wish u a happy new year and send out a congrats for graduating. I've been well I'm finally playin bball again in everything down in miami finally got taken care of thank god. Well idk if u will respond or not but best wishes for 2011.''

Stupid move on his part but Minnesota shouldn't punish him.

RubyWiscy

What part of "No Contact" did he not understand? Sometimes absolutes are a hard concept to grasp.

+1.  Hope he's getting his life together.

IMO, they should sit him down for a game (do they play Iowa soon?).

I do have some sympathy for the guy, but his message reads like he knows that what he's doing is wrong and that he shouldn't be contacting her...but he does it anyway. That's a problem.

I hope he gets his life straightened out and I hope this girl he contacted can also put whatever their issues were behind her as well.

BobWildLoyalist

Seems harmless, just wishing well. However he should know not to mess with the situation, considering everything that has already happened to him.

Bingo. Stupidity is not a defense, but I am never quite sure about appropriate punishment when some one is clearly just criminally dumb.

Ari Gold

Fucking stupid on his part. ya just don't talk to ex girlfriends regardless of a judicially ordered no contact rule, there is an obvious unwritten no contact rule. nothing good comes from trying to talk to an ex ever. thats the lesson to be learned here

It was. Now suffer the consequences. Minnesota should most definitely punish him, nothing extreme, but like MerritsMoustache said a game or maybe two. He obviously was too dense to understand what the restraining order required (NO CONTACT) and he clearly violated that. This brings legal repercussions and it should bring repercussions from the team/University. They have to teach him to follow the rules.

Clear violation. He sounds like a gay in that message though. If you want to go balls deep in a girl, I'm sure he can find something on campus in 20 minutes or less.

This. I think Mbakwe's situation is representative more of personal defiance (the rules don't apply to me) than it is of ignorance (I don't know the rules). He should be punished. There shouldn't be selective application of the law. He broke it, plain and simple.

Don't use facebook to much, but it was my understanding you had to be friends with someone to post on their wall?

I believe he sent that message, which you could do without being a friend.

A gay? Sending well-wishes is gay? Not saying what he did was right (it was illegal) but how is the content of the message gay? And when did Muscoop become a haven for homophobes?

Edit I know I'm going to get flack for saying that, and not trying to get into a political discussion, but I just don't understand why we always have to talk like that. We can't say racist things here, right?

DJO's Pump Fake

He should not have contacted her, doesn't matter circumstance.

Suspend for one game and move on is my guess

'having or showing a merry, lively mood'

I'll go with that if you really want to be offended.

Marq, is there something wrong with trying to make amends?  Yeah Trevor violated the terms, but there's something to be said for showing kindness.  You're taking a misguided effort at smoothing things over and degrading it.  Ever heard of the 12-step AA program?  I think one of them includes apologizing to those you've wronged in the past.  I'm sure he can "find someone" too, but that's not at play here, and if you think it's gay to right your wrongs then I feel sorry for you.

Yes, there is when you have been given a no contact order.

We don't know the background/circumstances of this relationship that would lead to a court order.  I'm not assuming is guilty of anything but being accused of sexual assault and having a no contact order filed against you is not exactly indicative of stability.  Raise your hand if you have had both of those things happen to you in your lifetime, let alone in the last 3-4 years.

Bottom line; there is a disturbing pattern of behavior with this kid that changes the "harmlessness" of his facebook post.
