An 89-81 loss to Pittsburgh is not the result any of us would have sought but we all know it is an OK outcome against a solid Pitt team.

I still think every MU player should be shooting a couple of hundred free throws EVERY day, but it is good to see the team making 20 of 27 (74.1 percent) from the line.

I HATE when we lose and the outcome is decided by lousy free throw shooting.

I love this team and am high on Darius Johnson-Odom and especially high on Jae Crowder. Jimmy Butler, too. I love their "screw you" attitudes.

I have concerns about Junior Cadougan, although I am rooting for him every game, and was not comfortable at all with Reggie Smith, who made me worry EVERY time he entered a game. I still do not know what strengths Smith brought to the court, although I hope he does well with his next team.

I hate any Marquette loss, but this one to Pitt was probably in the cards. At least the Marquette women beat Georgetown 75-73 in double overtime.

Ring Out Ahoya ... We Are Marquette ... Marquette Pride.

Are we allowed to be positive after a loss?  :o

But I agree there were positives today. Good from the line, competitive early on on the boards, and hung with one of the best teams in the land on their court. No reason we can't still get to double-digit wins in conference, win some big games, and keep playing into March.

The outcome of this game was NOT decided by free throws.

I was not suggesting that we lost to Pittsburgh because of poor free throw shooting. To the contrary, I pointed out that Marquette's 74.1 percent from the line against Pitt was some fine shooting.

Unlike in today's game, however, free throws often decide a game's outcome and, thus, every Marquette player should be doing all he can to become better from the line.
