I'm counting down the days until Juan arrives in Milwaukee.  It will be interesting to see what position (other than a "switchable") he'll play in Buzz's system.

Could he be a Scottie Pippenesque point forward?  Run an offense like a young Penny Hardaway?

In my 16 years as an MU fan, I can't recall having a 6'6-7" forward that can see the floor like a guard.

Maybe it's just me, but Juan Anderson is sounding better and better every time I hear about him. First, it's that he's a possible diamond in the rough because he's playing on the West Coast. Then he's another slashing switchable type guard-forward, which we have had success with. Next we hear he's dropping threes, I didn't remember that as part of the original scouting report. Next a growth spurt that could shoot him up to 6'8" or 6'9", and now he's drilling more threes at an unstoppable rate.

This kid is either playing way over his head, or is truly a dream-come-true type of player for Marquette. I'm hoping for the latter.

Last 6'6"-6'7" I can think of that resemled a mini-Lamar Odom was Odartey Blankson. Dude could play 2-4 and the 1 and 5 if needed.

We are falling into the same trap that we fall into around here with incoming freshmen.  I suggest that Juan is going to have many of the same struggles that Jamail and EWill have had to deal with when he gets here.  For instance, can he defend at this level?  Can he shoot with a hand in his face?

Don't get me wrong, he will be a solid player by the time he leaves here, but I'm not expecting much to start.

In the video I saw (a highlight reel I'm sure) I was most impressed with his handle and his court vision/passing. Hope he has the toughness since he appears to have all the skills.

Awww yes.  Demarr Johnson.  Dude never lived up to his potential in my opinion.  It's amazing the talent Huggy Bear had, that never reached their potential (Dontonio Wingfield, Damon Flint, Melvin Bullet, Ruben Patterson, etc).

Despite Cincy/Huggins incredible teams, the only players that went on to have good pro careers are Kenyon Martin and Nick Van Exel (Danny Fortson & Corie Blount did have a few decent seasons).

Didn't Johnson almost die in an accident his first or second year in the Association?

I think Ruben Patterson had a decent stint (not quite failure, not quite success) in the association with Seattle, and DeMarr Johnson was with the Nuggets for maybe like 2 years?

Probably the safest route to take. Though personally, I've been pleasantly surprised by the contributions of both Blue and Gardner this year as freshmen. Granted, Blue's offense needs work, as does Gardner's defense, but both are useful pieces, and I never would have expected that between them they'd be giving us 36 mpg. Honestly, I'd have been pleased to be getting 15-18 out of the two of them.

The odds are Anderson will need to improve his defense, and will probably log around 10-12 mpg in non-con play, then become an even less frequent contributor once the BEast schedule rolls around. But if he really shows up as a 6'9" slasher with a bit of a handle that can drain the three, he might be able to contribute a bit more as a freshman than I'm expecting.

And regarding DerMarr Johnson, he's now playing professionally in Lebanon. After breaking his neck in an accident, he worked his way back and earned a bit of time with the the Knicks, Nuggets, and Spurs. He then played a year in China (at the same team where Chris "Birdman" Andersen once played) before signing to play in Lebanon. My guess is despite all his promise, his NBA career is now likely over.

It will all depend on what type of game Jamil Wilson brings to the table.  In the Pro-Am he reminded
me of a taller and bigger Jimmy Butler.  Needed to work on strength which I assume Todd Smith is doing,
and work on his three point shot.  Juan might be the back-up then, or Vander might still back-up both
of them.  I do not want to see Vander play  small forward next year, rather have him play the point
and back-up DJO.  Need to play bigger and with Jae maybe guarding the 3 as I am sure Jamil is a few inches
taller than Jae, at least it looks like that on the bench.

Juan Anderson is not getting enough playing time.  Players expect to play, and  Buzz is taking a chance on Juan transferring to a school who will promise him more playing time.

Right on, AZ.  Expectations on new recruits always is over the top.  I think Butch Lee, like
a Top 5 player that year, averaged like 8 points as a freshman!  If Juan averaged 6 it would
be good.

This is very very true, and I havent helped when it comes to hyping Juan too much. However, though I am VERY high on Juan personally, I will not freak out when he isnt starting or playing 15+ minutes a game and/or making silly frustrating mistakes....I don't do it to our freshmen now and won't in the future. Im only know starting to worry about EWill.

I do think he has the chance to make a Dominic James-type Freshman impact though (again, a chance...the competition level is probably way too high to allow that much playing time as the 3 Amigos had), along with having the best legitimate potential of any of our players and recruits to be that special impact player MU has not had in a long while.
