6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists.. in only 14 minutes of play..
leave him out there for the average starter minutes and he's on pace for a double-double and close to a triple double (13 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists).  These are NOT bad stats at all.  Further, his contributions came at key times and provided a huge and (still) unexpected lift to the team when basically nobody else was shining.  That's stud of game in my book.

Can't we have two studs of the game or three or a team effort stud of the game?  Wes Matthews always performs at such a high level, his invaluable contribution is frequently overlooked.

I put Kinsella up there.  Fitz was great.  But I grade on a curve.  It was Kinsella's best game in his whole career at MU, give a dog a bone.

I agree. I'm happy for Kinsella.  After his injuries and all he's gone through, he is now having his moment and I'm happy for him.  Aside from just making the 3 pointers, he seems to have a nice feel for the game at the perimeter.  Besides, Fitz gets dinged a little bit for his tendency to foul layups with less than a minute to play causing 3-point plays.

One last thing, Hayward is really coming into his own.  He wasn't great yesterday, but he was solid and is very active around the basket. I think he's found his confidence and its good to see.

Fitz stepped it up big time.  Especially after his horrible game against Pitt.  He's my stud of the game.  He really is starting to look like Novak Jr. I'm thinking that he'll have a big tournament and a huge Senior year.

Pleae refrain from comparing Fitzgerald (or any other MU player in the present or future) to Novak.  He was by far the best shooter we've ever had or ever will have.  Fitzgerald doesn't stretch a defense NEARLY to the extent that Novak did, and he has a tendancy to disappear for several game stretches.  I'm not knocking the game he had last night by any means.  He was huge.  Just please, no Novak references.

I'd like to make Hayward my s-o-t-g, but he doesn't have the killer instinct for loose balls, rebs, passes, steals etc.  If he kicked it up a notch his contributions would be HUGE.  I appreciate as a freshman he is playing 'within himself', and that's fine, but Oose's energy for loose balls should be more contagious.

Having said that, got to go w/ Kinsella.

That's just like projecting how rookies perform per 48 minutes.
And if that was done, James Augustine would have the highest per 48 performance than any other NBA rookie.

The SOTG is awarded to the player who had the most impact on the court, and not hypothetically.

Kinsella had the game of his career, but Fitz nailed some key 3's and really was aggressive to the board and around it.

That is why he is my SOTG.

Hey now, it's not even all the mods.  We all just kind of share this duty.  After Pitt spiral put up the stud of the game - he selected Cubillan, but I was lobbying for Kinsella.  This time, hilltopper did it - and oddly enough I would have selected fitzgerald. 

It's not a perfect science, but it's good to know that people take the SOTG more seriously (at least it's discussed more) than the big east all-conference teams.  I'll take that as a compliment

Nonetheless, you angst shouldn't last too much longer, since we have another game, and the potential for a new stud in only a few hours

I actually think as a player Fitz has the potential to be better than Novak.  Obviously, no one will be able to shoot like money, but Dan isn't a slouch at it.  Also did you see Dan drive a couple of times last night, Steve never could have done that.  Dan also plays better defense.  Not knocking Novak, hes awesome but if you compare overall games Dan in his senior year really could be better than Novak as long as he stays aggresive

I also think comparing Fitz (who is a junior) to Novak as a junior might come out with Fitz on top.  Novak would get the nod on shooting, but Fitz would in almost every other area.

Obviously Novak made huge improvements his senior season and whether Fitz will remains to be seen.
