Figured I would start a new thread that we could pull up at later dates to discuss other big east games / matchups not involving MU.

This Pitt vs. Uconn game is just OK so far....  But I have a feeling K Walker is going to heat up here down the stretch..

Boxscore:

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=303610221

Pitt is really well balanced.  Uconn depends too much on K Walker.  The way Uconn is playing right now reminds me a little bit of MU when DJO is off.

edit:  Except DJO doesn't shoot EVERY time down the court.   KW took 27 shots.

ND leading Georgetown by 14 with 12 to go.  They are tuff.  5 seniors.  We have our hands full with them twice.

And the Johnies making life difficult for Huggy Bear up 5 in Morgantown.

Click those seat belts in it is going to be a rough ride in the Big East this year!

MauraDay

Yup, ND is fundamentally sound, smart, and experienced. Underrated qualities.

Looks like St. Johns will beat WVU...as you mention..it is going to be a rough ride in the Big East this year...
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

Big East could use UL victory today.  Should be a good one...

Kentucky kicked UL's butt pretty good today.

That's what happens when you reload.  The quality of freshman play for a Top Ten recruit is obvious.  Kentucky's Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones are just tremendous.

At the Yum Center no less.  U of L overrated to me with an easy OOC...and has a short bench.  Sounds like Jennings and Slick not bonding either.  And, they are all about the treys.

dsfire

UL must've shot out of their minds at the end to finish 46% FG and 40% from 3.  I think they were shooting around 30% and 15% when I looked around halftime.

The book is out:  Slow Walker, stop UCONN.

Yeah, but Walker still had 24 points and 8 boards. Not exactly what I'd call a "slow" night. And he had 31 in their loss to Pitt, albeit on 37% shooting from the field. He's scored 20 points in 11 straight games, 10 of them wins. For a collegiate player, I wouldn't call any of those slow games.

Granted, I fully realize you are pretty much the ultimate stat guru, and I confess I didn't see tonight's game, but Walker scored 36% of UConn's points. It doesn't seem like USF managed to slow him at all. If anything, it's the rest of the team that needs to pick it up. Only one other guy in double figures, and Walker led them in rebounds and assists as well.

National Champs

Walker will get his points, but if you can make it difficult to do it with a small number of shots you have a real good chance at winning.

Sorry--by "slow" I mean to make him work has arse off on both ends to tire him out.  He takes 31% percent of UCONN's possessions as it is....so this manifests itself in ways like FG% in the upper 30's vs. Pitt and USF vs. the 50's vs. UK and MSU.

Versus Pitt, Walker had 43.2% of UCONN's possessions, which is unreal.  That means no one else is involved in their offense.  Oliver says that a superstar ideally should be around 28%....Jordan--when it was him versus the world but without playoff wins-- was in the mid to upper 30%.  It was closer to 28% during his championship runs.

As you say, "slow" is a relative word when talking about Walker...the dude is going to get his points.  But, if you work him over, his shot and hops get heavy, and his quickness inevitably slows...more so as the season goes on. Both Pitt and USF like the physical games.

Yup, don't look now.

1:30 left and DePaul just tied it on a 3.

Good showing by the Demons.  Like their 2 freshman, back to back BE fresman of the week (I think, to lazy to check).

Tonight...

Seton Hall @ Louisville on ESPNU @6pm CST.  I would bet on Rick tonight at home winning by more than the 11.5 line.

chren21

We have our hands full with ND on Monday.  I dont see us winning at ND down the road so to get one from them at home would be huge.  They are up 20 on St. J's...

#7 Nova over #25 Cincinnati 71-62. didn't watch the game, but does this outcome make our loss to Pitt any better? or at least more palatable?  Nova up by 16 at half. Nova with 19 turnovers. anyone watch?

karavotsos

Unfortunately, did not get to watch this game.  From the articles on ESPN, sounds like classic Cincy under Cronin.

I like how the article posits that Cincy's learning to win in the big east.  2 techs, one on your coach and one on your senior center.  Seems like these are the guys who should have learned something by now.  You've gotta keep your composure.

Did anyone just watch that UConn vs. Villanova game?  Fantastic game.  Kemba nailed a runner with 2.5 left to win it.
