Is Crowder a disappointment?

I know he's been heralded here, but watching Crowder today, he sure doesn't look like anything special.   He was often confused on defense, doesn't really hustle on rebounds and is not much of an option on offense.  He does like to act like a leader in the huddle, but his play shows very little.

BTW, the crowd was at least 95% MU fans and many were in the favored Gold.  And they were fired up and ready to go, but MU gave them very little to cheer about.

I was at the game. The crowd was great. Certainly 90+% MU fans. 70-75% is not even close.

Crowder is averaging almost 6 rebounds per game in about 22 minutes. So guess what? He does rebound!!!!

He can't rebound in traffic.  Most of his boards are of the stst padding variety.  Missed FT's etc.  Dude is in way over his head defensively and doesn't really help offensively.  In short MU doesn't need another undersized 3.  We have a hole roster full of 'em.

Crowder had a rough game. He will be fine. Getting two early fouls totally messed up his flow in the game. That, I believe is the first time that's happened to him (2 early fouls). Stupid second foul but that happens, just wished it had happened against south Dakota not UW.

Does anyone remember Butler and Fulce when they first got to MU? I realize that JC had more hype than they did, but it's not like they walked on campus and started dominating. Give it time. There's a big difference between D1 and Junior College.

Thought this frequently.   Since Gardner can only play in short bursts, feed him every time down and let him foul out the other team in his 12-15 minutes.    He was open in the post.  Of course he won't score every time, but I like his chances better than a drive to the left, step back contested 18 footer.

Incredibly disappointing turnout, for my money. More empty seats than I expected, and far more red than I expected. 30% might be a bit high, but I would certainly say Bucky was no less than 20%. In my row there were only four Marquette fans (myself and my girlfriend, the two season ticket holders next to us), and there was more than enough red looking around the BC to make it clear we weren't even close to a "gold-out".

As far as Crowder...what to say? He's not Lazar Hayward. It's unfair for us to think he would be. Defense isn't where I'd like it, but he's usually a decent offensive option, can hit the three, and gets rebounding numbers (even if he doesn't rebound particularly well). I think the problem is we need someone to be that inside player now, and he's just not ready yet. Sadly, that "not ready yet" feels like a constant throughout the team.

i think Crowder looks fine. of course there's a learning curve coming from juco, but from what i saw the biggest learning curve is learning to be a part of a high major TEAM.  its not that the guy is a selfish player or anything, but hes coming from a place where he was not only a better athlete than most, but was option 1, 1a, and 2 on his team. he's used to being an offensive focal point rather than having to get his looks out of a motion oriented offense.  i think thats also a big part of why he looks so plainly in need of being fed in the post.
the glaring example in my mind is early in the second half when he was fed, kicked out to the corner, the ball got rotated to the elbow and Crowder had since reposted.  i was screaming for him to get the rock, but the team was already looking to reverse on the perimeter and create a slashing lane. just a clear example of crowder playing the set the way he was used to. I'm guessing that in Buzz's system, Gardner should be coming across the paint, setting a screen, and allowing crowder to repost on the other block and/or allowing the offball guard on the reverse side to slash to the area Gardner would be vacating.
