Daring to discuss something other than who is more wrong between Chicos and JB, it's the time of year when all the "best albums" of 2010 lists are coming out. Anyone have input on what the best of last year was?

My two cents is "High Violet" by The National.

David Byrne & Fatboy Slim 'Here Lies Love'

Not expecting anyone here to share my taste in music, but it'd be interesting if someone did.

1.) A Day to Remember - What Separates Me From You
2.) Alesana - The Emptiness
3.) Four Year Strong - Enemy of the World
4.) Bring Me The Horizon - There is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen it, There is a Heaven Let's Keep it a Secret
5.) The Word Alive - Deceiver

These albums made my year:

Sleigh Bells - Treats
Best Coast - Crazy For you
The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack
Harlem - Hippies
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker
The Black Keys - Brothers
Wavvs - King of the Beach

This album came out last year, but I still had it on heavy rotation:
The XX - XX

PBRme

The Killer - Mean Old Man

Album of the Year
Peace, Love, and Rye Whiskey...May your life and your glass always be full

I realize that the Indie music scene is all about, "I heard about this band before you did!", but the only band here that I have heard of is the Black Keys (and no, not just this year)... oh and Fat Boy Slim, obviously.

My vote (s)
Coheed and Cambria - Year of the Black Rainbow

I love all types of music, so honorable mentions:
Eminem - Recovery
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare

Note, these are albums, not individual songs.

I await the flames I will get for enjoying somewhat mainstream music... As a caveat, I wouldn't put any of these albums even in my top 10.  I just think it has been a crappy year for music.

Good band, but I didn't think this album was anything special.  In my opinion "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" And "Dear Apollo... Vol. 1" are excellent, their others are good but not great.

That's my favorite so far too.  Speaking of which...

Although I suspect at the end of the year it'll be Kanye's new album.

I also downloaded a few live concerts by Explosions in the Sky that have really been enjoyable (not really albums).  Finally, I am totally late to the party on this, but Pandora turned me onto Built to Spill.  Their live album has been on heavy rotation.

Finally, I really appreciate the OP starting this thread.   "Best of" lists are typically how I discover new music each year.

edit:  added EITS and BTS

That's sick, thanks Sugar.

I'm anxiously awaiting Pitchfork's best of lists.

Even though it is not current music, Rolling Stone started a segment where artists put together play lists of a specific genre. It is a good way to expand your horizons.

Otis Taylor - Clovis People, Vol. 3

Springsteen - The Promise/Darkness on the edge of town 30th Anny re-issue

My musical tastes are considerably more diverse than this, but it was a decent year for hip-hop.

In no particular order:
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot...the Son of Chico Dusty
Drake - Thank Me Later
The Black Keys - Brothers (not their best, but a strong album nonetheless)

Amazing!!  i was listening to that all weekend!

the best album is yet to drop... it *will* be the Best of Bootie 2010 at bootiesf.com  long live the mash up!!

I just became acclimated with the band Stars..... don't know their last album (something about Ghosts i think?) but their show this fall @ Turner Hall was awesome!

As for people who are self-conscious, it only matters what you think about what you listen to, so what if others don't like it??  i have nothing against mainstream tunes, and only you know what ya like :)

Their last album is "The Five Ghosts" - but better choices for listening would be "In Our Bedroom After the War" and "Set Yourself on Fire"

An even better choice is to check out Broken Social Scene - a Canadian supergroup that has 4 members of Stars in it.

Should probably add "Forgiveness Rock Record" to the list of the year's best

Haha nice!  I just saw them for the third time a few weeks ago at the Rave.  "2012" was epic.
