Marquette vs Gonzaga....thoughts?

Think it is a very winnable game, the only thing I am scared about is a let-down after a high intensity game tonight against Duke, and the Zag's size wearing MU down

Just got back from the Sprint Center.  The zags were stretched across the entire floor tonight.  If anyone is going to be out of gas it's them.  The zags basically ran themselves into the ground.  They have a couple nice players, but from what I saw tonight, MU would seem to have the better team.  I'm just not sure who is going to guard 00.  He was a load even for the Cats.

00 is Robert Sacre.  He is a 7 footer out of British Columbia, Canada.  Hopefully Gardner will be healthy enough to stop (or at least slow him down).  Also heard the commentators say that he is a pretty good free-throw shooter so fouling him isn't really an option.  K-State was able to hold him to 17 so I'm guessing he won't be as dominant as Plumlee was.  If Gardner is not able to play, hopefully a Otule/Crowder combo is able to stop him.  Also, I heard some chatter on the Zag board that Elias Harris is supposed to be pretty good but hasn't been performing this year and that he needs to be eased in.  Anyone know why this is? Coming back from injury? Cold Start (like DJO)?

Sacre could abuse us and he does shoot free throws well, there whole team does. The way to beat them is the 3 pointer and we simply havnt done it yet. We need to make our free throws as well and hopefully the quickness of JB, DJO and everyone else will get them into foul trouble. Steven Gray looks way bigger than his listed 6'5 and hes a stud. Harris is supposed to be there best player but yes he got injured vs SDSU and they fear a torn/ruptured achilles but it wasnt that severe but hes being eased in, and JB needs to expose him.


There height scares me bad, but if we get out and run, cause turnovers and get DJO going from deep. We can win.

As long as we don't have another off night, we should have a decent shot at pulling this one out. Despite the loss last night, I can't imagine a Buzz coached team having a let down in a tournament like this. The potential to return to Milwaukee at 5-1 with a win over a top 25 team is big, and I'm sure he'll be reminding them of that all day.

I think DJO has a big game versus Gonzaga.  This Zags team is similar to other years... leaving a decent amount of wide open threes to opponents.  I think DJO gets on a streak tonight and stays hot.

The key for us will be playing defense against them as they have a good offense.  If we can keep them off of the offensive boards and make them shoot from the outside I think we will win.

We have to use our quickness in the back court to our advantage - similar to what KSU did last night.  Harrass their guards to make the entry passes harder.  Shoot well from the outside.  Spread them out. 

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some of the 1-3-1 zone that Buzz likes to break out occasionally.

K-State was playing in front of a basic home crowd....don't let the score fool you...Gonzaga has some studs and their height can give us a lot of trouble.  00 is a beast and can move for a big man.   They were run ragged so may be tired but they are a really good team with a lot of experience.   They have some shooters and are well-coached.  They do play a small 5'11 point guard at times and I hope Reggie Smith gets some minutes to guard him...that would be amusing.

There will be a fan advantage tonight for MU as GU had very few in attendance.  But, a win would be very impressive, in my opinion.

Not saying I think we should "fall back" into it...but perhaps after a 4-0 run, etc for a posession or two. Our guards will be bigger/longer than theirs, and hopefully some active hands can get a few easy buckets on the other end.

I think Gonzaga will come out on fire tonight and a little chippy. They've taken some shots a lot earlier this season then is normal for them. This is a respect game for the Zags and they know they have to put MU in its place to justify their hype.

Harris is clearly limited. Gray can be dynamic but also can isolate himself at times. Stockton is pure but young so doesn't take over yet. Sacre will look like Plumlee all night but not sure he can get 25 if we don't put him on the line. Goodson can't shoot.

I think the Chin should just keep firing. If not, take down a fatty when back on campus to break the slump. Expect the Bicycle to have more of an impact then last night. Crowder will do Crowder. I also wouldn't be surprised if Reggie gets some run in the backcourt as a different look.

Going to be a tight one.

The one scary thing about tonight for MU is that the Zags need this game more than MU does.  The Zags are at risk of three losses before Dec 1.  They do still have Illinois, Washington State, Notre Dame, Baylor, Xavier, OK State, and Wake ahead of them.  A pretty crazy schedule actually.

San Diego State really hurt them.

They don't have the Big East coming up.  With that schedule, you would have to think Gonzaga would be a 6 loss team non-conference if they lose to MU.  That is not a great NCAA at large resume.

Sacre is solid but is no wear near as good as Plumlee.  I think Otule should play alot tonight and can shut him down defensively.  Otule stops Sacre and we are better at the other 4 positions.  Not very impressed with the Zags.  In that one game frame of reference.  No where near as talented as they have been IMO.
