Its the regular access forum. If you cant get in, you just have to make a free Scout ID (I know, thats kinda annoying).

They are seriously giving some very nice props to MU, and how we played! Saying we should compete for the Big East title, and are the most impressive Big East team they've watched so far.

Hard to hate those fans (though, Ive never been a Duke hater)

What are they saying? "Thank God that we're allowed to take 3 steps pretty much every time we have the ball, make passes while standing out of bounds, and goaltend whenever we want or we have LOST to a pretty bleeping good MU team?"

Cool thread. My hate for Duke actually lessened.

Its free, just to let you know. Takes only a minute, I know...its really annoying.

But here are some quotes:

Opening Post: "I would just like to give Marquette some props you guys played outstanding, and to all the fans of other teams waiting on Duke to fall. Really! We aren't unbeatable but dont forget this was our first real test and I think we did better than alot of other teams would have. Oh by the way if anybody believes this Marquette team is the 8th best team in the Big East then you need to have your eyes checked. Wait until we gel. My Goodness."
...

"I fully expect Marquette to contend for the Big East title as long as the players are healthy. Villanova has not impressed me, Syracuse is definitely overrated, West Virginia is rebuilding/reloading, and UConn is living on the edge."

Pitt and Georgetown are the other major contenders imo."
...

"Played their tails off. Tough minded kids, not scared of anyone. We could use a little of that nastiness."
...
"Tough gritty group.  They'd finish 2nd in our league this year, IMO"

Agreed, although I'm not going to say we lost because of the officials tonight.  I watched the game with an ACC fan and he said there is a cumulative effect to the pro-Duke officiating.  You get a steal, great drive and the lay-in gets swatted away and a clear goaltend doesn't get called.  Crowd goes nuts and Dickie V. starts screaming about about what a mastermind Coach K is as Singler hits a three on the other end with his foot over the line.  Before you know it it's a 12 point run and you're calling timeout thinking it should be tied.

AND THIS!...from the guy that earlier said in a thread that he "despised Buzz."

"I still dislike Buzz but he is a heck of a coach. THat's a tough, tough basketball team. It was closer than it should have been but Marquette had a whole lot to do with it. Best of luck to them the rest of the year."

You could also read this as Duke fans being so arrogant about the superiority of their team that ANY team playing them close must be the best non-ACC team out there.  Just saying is all.

Geeze UncleJohn really wanted to be thorough with his answer....  Not sure the Duke fans cared for quite that much detail....  But I enjoyed it.

Or that outside of Duke, the ACC is very mild... which it is (although I expect UNC to be VERY tough)

Did he still despise Buzz after he said that Duke could be better than .500 in the NBA?

I'd have to disagree with you on the refs tonight, i thought that overall they called a great game. Sure they missed a few calls, but all refs do in a given game.

What i feared before the game was a heavy bias by the refs toward Duke's favor, but i saw none of that and they let the two teams play without calling tons of ticky tack fouls. Hell, Duke only shot 12 free throws and some of those came late when MU intentionally fouled and they weren't calling us for fouls on the 11 steals we had.

While the refs didn't call a lot of fouls, which I was pleased with, there were some clear calls that didn't go the way they should have. Granted I'm biased towards Marquette, but when someone is clearly out of bounds the play is dead (and to make it better, he was right in front of the ref when he threw the ball off of Crowder). There were also some blocks (two or three in my opinion) that were clearly goal tending, and a couple threes by Singler that were close enough that they should have been looked at.

The refs didn't blow the game for us, but some of those calls go our way and maybe the momentum shifts would have swung a bit more in our favor. At the same time, it doesn't help when DJO goes 0 for 8 in the first half and follows that up with a stupid charge in the second half on a 3 on 1 fast break.

I think you agreed with me.  I don't think that overall the officiating was biased against us (we got a few questionable calls in our favor too).  I was only making a general comment about how Duke can capitalize on a bad call by turning it into a momentum swing.

Please, please stop.  That was a very well, very balanced reffed game.  Did they get a few calls wrong?  Yep.  Benefited both teams.  But by and large, that was a good game.

Look at their roster, mostly all Soph and Frosh, at least of those who play a lot of the minutes.

To think they won't be much improved at the end of the year, you would be kidding yourself

That was my initial reaction...that they can take their compliments and go pound sand.  Just because we competed with you in the second half, we are going to make a run at the Big East title?  Seems quite self-serving for them.

However, I must say, the appear to be a very level headed and polite fan base.  I suppose that should be expected from a school of Duke's academic stature and the basketball's ranking/reputation.  Any anti-Duke sentiment I might have had was lessened after reading through their boards.

I wish the fans of many of our Big East brethern (see Pitt) would take a lesson from these guys.

MU would be lucky to win 5 games in the B10 and Duke is way overrated.   Credibility established.   Character revealed.

Tee-hee.
In the same thread bashing MU and Duke they talk about how impressive MSU has been and how it was a "nice win" to see them beat a Division II team by a whopping eight points.
