Thanks but the first thread requires a log in.

The second thread was amusing.   They seemed concerned about our size and our post up offense.  Not so concerned about our 3pt shooting.  Looking at the stats of the first 4 games, I suppose they are right, but I am not so sure it will turn out that way.

I agree for the most part.  It could turn out that way, but not in a win.  If we win, we need to shoot close to 40% from three and get to the line 10+ times.

I laughed at the fact that they think Duke can run us out of the gym because we have a 285 lb center.  I would love a track meet game with them.

In a nutshell

They are looking forward to the game based on the last two battles between the teams

They've noticed our poor FT shooting, poor Assist to Turnover ratio, good balanced scoring and good rebounding

A Milwaukee Duke fan breaks down game, says it should be entertaining but a Duke win sans a poor Duke effort and fantastic MU effort

One guy stunned to see 7 guys from MU shooting over 70%

One guy despises Buzz Williams...someone questions why....he repeats his\her displeasure...MU fan chimes in to ask if he meant Tom Crean instead...no response

That's about it thus far

Markusquette

At least they seemed to be realistic about things and no trash talking or anything.

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

"Lazar Hayward. The L stands for leader, and the W stands for winner, Lazar Hayward is a winner."

Interresting comments by the Duke breathren - confident that they will win, but still respecting Marquette, and no trash talking.  MU will have their hands very very full.  GO MARQUETTE!!

Someone's been reading MUScoop...

Quote from: CEF1959One guy to keep an eye on is freshman Davante Gardner, the player listed at 6-8, 290, but listed elsewhere at 6-9, 305. The guy is huge, though he was only a 3-star recruit. They call him "Fridge" or "Ox". He's averaging only 12 minutes, but 13 ppg. I suspect there are conditioning issues there that make him a defensive liability against a running opponent. But somebody's going to have to guard Marquette's bigs down low.

It's Ox, dammit, Ox!  ;D

I think Marquette is the type of team that Duke could overlook, especially with a potential #1/#3 matchup on the horizon. I think the two keys are the Plumlees and our outside defense. I really think we need to work on the Plumlees early, if we can get them into foul trouble, it could be a long day, especially if Ox is healthy enough to play. If not, I don't think it's a huge deal as I don't expect much of their offense to come through those guys. I can't imagine Otule going off for 15 again against the Dookies, but at least he's not a complete void in there. Otherwise, we need to defend the three. Blue needs to lockdown on the best opposing guard at the time, I expect him to spend most of the night hawking Irving, Smith, and Singler. It'd be nice if DJO stepped up for this. Last year, he had some games where he was lights out on both ends of the court, hopefully the motivating factor of Duke can bring that out in him again. They're not unbeatable, but we need to be at our best to beat them. Hopefully they are looking ahead and we can catch them doing that.

Over the first four games, I've been trying to figure out how much of the struggles at times are due to major weaknesses or playing down to competition.

I think I'll find out tomorrow night. Can't wait to see it though, good or bad.

I watched the Inside Duke show on ESPNU a couple nights ago and I am really worried about the Plumlees.  From what I saw they don't do much off of the dribble, but man can they catch a pass and throw it down.  They are big and ATHLETIC.  I think Gardner/Otule will struggle to keep up with them, as they were typically moving towards the hoop when they caught the pass and just going above the rim.  Those are the scariest players to me, because they're 2 guys I think we struggle to match up with.

I think we give them all that they can handle but in the end I think they're the better and more experienced (really key) basketball team.  I think we unfortunately take an 8 point loss, but I hope (and wouldn't be completely shocked) I am wrong.

One thing that gives me hope is that DJO really broke out last year during our first tournament when we played Michigan, Xavier, and Florida State.  That was Thanksgiving week.  Hopefully he breaks out at this week's tournament as well.

texaswarrior74

Young Plumlee is far more athletic than the older one....if we can at least defend the three point shot better than we have I think we provide some match up problems for dook....we're a much more athletic team overall than they are....they have two very good guards but our team athleticism is superior to theirs.

a lot will depend on how the game is officiated....if they let dook get away with their constant hand checking and flopping it will hurt us....

dook fans in general are very delusional .... if we beat them the meltdown will be epic....

No.  I don't despise Buzz, I actually think he's quite a nice guy.  That's not how that Duke fan feels so you'll have to take it up with him/her.

Looks like they joined almost 8 years ago....why don't you send him\her some obsessive emails to set him straight.

On the MU show, Buzz was talking about how this is a huge game for DJO.  He played JUCO basketball in Kansas and grew up in North Carolina so this game means a lot to him.

Is there a link to the show you are referring to?

Clam Crowder

Yeah DJO is the key in this game. If he makes 3's and plays lights out and Jimmy is Jimmy then we stand a chance. I also expect Vander to play great. I got faith in those 3 playing strong. Otule vs. the Brothers Plumlee will be interesting

Duke fans are pretty down on the Plumlee bros on their fan boards.  Hopefully Otule can get them in early foul trouble with his solid D and let Ox/Crowder go to work on the offensive side of things.
