Remembering Maurice Lucas

Charles P. Pierce, an old friend and a wonderful writer, has penned this remembrance of Maurice Lucas, the former Marquette University star.

I never read Season on the Brink but the story about drinking beer and talking about it was  in another book which I can't remember the name.  Author was a NY guy and it was about NYC playground legends and the guy at MU was a academic project who never  played (the Pope?) and made those same comments.  The Mu guy said he always drank wine and didn't relate to beer. Does anyone remember that book and who the player was.

Finally got the right combo of words in my Google search it was Pete Axthelm and the book was the City Game which had the same sequence about drinking beer as attributed to Halberstam.  I mentioned the wrong book title it was Breaks of the Game not Season on the Brink.
