Its put up or shut up.  I don't see any more top recruits without a good/surprising season.  A nice win against Duke could put us on the radar for some guys.

I think no one is the smart bet, but Hood seems like our best hope. Time for Buzz to start scouring the JUCO ranks for another hidden gem, which is far from a bad thing.

My guess is none of the above.  Which is a shame considering these were the current primary targets according to all sources posted.

If so, Wilson is on board and Anderson signs.  Now the question is what to do with the remaining scholarships.

If Buzz does look at the JUCO ranks, does anyone know who they looking at?  Is there any quality JUCO players? Does he sign one JUCO and bank the other or recruit a lesser known one just to fill the slot.  Does Singleton get a slot?

As an auburn football season ticket holder who heard the doubts about how cam newton's juco performance would translate to the sec-im completely happy with banking for a juco for mu if we don't get hood.  I would truly love to get hood though - there is some southern talent I'd love buzz to start to get along with california, texas and the be footprint.

Shaw looked bored at Madness. I'm saying none  :( but I'm also not worried about it.  ;)

Agree 100% with your forecast...think the only one we have a chance with at this point is Hood..but all whispers say he is going to Miss State..

Did Noreen make up his mind yet?

I think that we're beginning to see the the flip side of recruiting success.  If a recruit is going to commit to a team with a deep roster, its has to be a name school.  With a little NCAA success, Buzz will get MU there.

If we have to go through this year with no "big man" recruit, I'm fine with it if it helps set us up for Nolan from Milwaukee and the big kid from Memphis in the class of 2012.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

While I figure we will always have a JUCO presence on the roster (and Buzz has said as much) I am not so sure it happens in the 2011 class. Consider our roster breakdown.

If we add a JUCO with 3 years of eligibility he would join the class with:
-Blue
-Gardner
-Jones
-Smith
-Wison

If we add a JUCO with 2 years of eligibility, he would join the class with:
-Cadougan
-Otule
-Williams
-Singleton (non-scholarship)

For the sake of roster balance...would it really make sense to add a 5th (or 6th) player to either of these classes?  Having 5 (or 6) players leave the program at once is not ideal, IMO.

***Fixed, thanks Murs***

Its especially tough to get a kid out of the south and up to a small school like Marquette. That is SEC and football country, and Marquette really has little identity down there considering the lack of football and recent tourney success. If Buzz gets Hood, to me that would be his most impressive recruiting job ever.

I would put Wilson with Blue, Gardner, etc., since this year won't count against his eligibility.

Travelling for work everyone always knows about Marquette.  The problem is that they don't know where Wisconsin is :P

To an average, middle-class African American family, I doubt the name Marquette means much. The south is such a different sports landscape than the east coast/midwest. Football is everything down there, so all the big sports schools are huge state schools, as opposed to around here and in the east, where there are plenty of schools like Marquette and many of our BE rivals that have no sports identity outside of basketball. That is a tough hurdle to overcome. Buzz has shown he can do it with guys like Williams and Jamail Jones, but it is something to overcome anytime.

Realist at this stage of the recruiting game!  That said, I'm not in panic mode if we don't land another Top 100 player in this class and have an "off year" recruiting..compared to Buzz's first 2 years.   8-)

Actually, most of MU's roster hails from the South:

Otule (Texas)
Fulce (Texas)
E. Williams (Texas)
Jimmy Butler (Texas)
Cadougan (Texas, more or less)
DJO (North Carolina)
Jamail Jones (Georgia, by way of Florida)
Jae Crowder (Georgia, by way of Texas)
Gardner (Virginia)

Maybe not all "SEC Country," but it's not exactly a basketball first environment where msot of these kids come from.

That really is amazing for a school in Milwaukee.  Buzz rocks!

What is even more amazing(although the newcomers have not experienced it yet) is the fact they did not leave when it got cold and snowy.

Absolutely right. It shows you what a recruiter Buzz is. But you can't tell me its not a hurdle to overcome basically everytime to convince a kid from this area that MU is right for them(especially with non-JUCO guys)

I'm sure that he heavily sells the opportunity to see snow for the first time to these recruits.
