For those able to attend Madness - I recently saw this from a friend regarding Quincy Miller's recruitment at Baylor - their cheerleaders held up signs with Quincy's name - and he had a huge smile on his face.  I've read this might be a minor, minor violation..but..is there anything that can stop FANS from taking signs?

Just some simple posterboard, with a "We Want Mike Shaw!" or "J'Arion, Trey and Mike - Welcome to Marquette!"

Maybe I'll get bashed for this being cheesy - but I genuinely believe when kids come to a place as a recruit, and see that the fans of that program really want them...it does make a difference.

Thoughts?  My last thought - Interesting that we have three "bigs" attending this event, with only 2 slots left.  Knowing Hood is solidly still in the mix - it could be that we only have 1 scholarship to offer these 3 kids coming to Madness - I suspect this realization among the recruits could have the desired effect...and that they offer up a verbal sooner, rather than later realizing the window at MU could be closing.

Humm school cheerleaders holding up signs doesn't sound minor to me.

Considering the violations that go on at Baylor, not sure we'd want to follow their suit on anything.

And who are the three "bigs"?

Last year there were a few "Black and Blue in Gold and Blue" signs at the Al, for Tarik Black and Vander blue. I don't mind signage as long as there is some creativity in it.

I think fans with signs would be considered different than a school ran team.

Shaw, McDonald, and Jarion Henry. Not sure Henry is really a big, more of a pf. But he is 6'8, so thats big by our standards.

Another big attending.....

Alex Poythress, 6'8 2012 power forward from Tennessee. Had no idea we were in on this guy, but this is great news. #14 in his class by ESPN, top 35 by both Scout and Rivals. I love Buzz.

Shaw and Henry aren't "bigs". We have this discussion here once every two months but they aren't the "bigs" that every MU fan has been clamoring for since Robert Jackson. McDonald is a true 5 man. The other two are versatile 4s (perhaps even a 3 in Henry's case) who would play 5 at times in our system which is a road we've been down far too often over the last decade. We will hold a spot for Shaw no matter, even if its the Spring when he chooses. Hood is not an issue so if McDonald wants to commit on Tuesday, no reason not to take him as the Plan As have walked off.

As next week unfolds, I'm just hoping for good news with a commit and good news with no injuries. That starts tonight.

Oops, mean to type that Henry is more of a "sf". I agree he isn't really a big.

What exactly do you mean "Hood is not an issue"? We are very much in the picture for him.

As Golden Avalanche has explained prevoiusly..since we are 1 of 3 schools Hood is still considering..there is a 66% chance he doesn't choose MU.  In my experience Lanche tends to run pessimistic on things, but he may have some inside info on things on occasion.

As for nitpicking on the type of "bigs" MU is recruiting...I'm not going to split hairs - Robert Jackson wasn't much over 6'8"....and there just aren't many highly skilled 6'10" + guys that go to programs other than NC, KU, Kentucky, Syracuse, Duke.  I'd rather have a skilled 6'8" guy than a 6'10" stiff.  The obsession with bigs here is out of hand.  Buzz will be VERY successful with the roster he has assembled AS IS.  We are watching the game of basketball evolve right in front of our own eyes...the days of dump down, let a big man go to work are coming to an end..it is a game being played by versatile, long, athletic, multi-skilled players.  This doesn't mean a Shaq or DeMarcus Cousins isn't going to be an asset...but..teams will be able to combat that with the above type of roster.

Gardner may be the closest thing to Jackson that we have.  I'm not expecting much out of Devante this year, or possibly even next year, but I think by the time he's an upper-classman, he will be playing a very valuable role here.

Someone should hold up a sign saying "Good luck on the ACT Mike"
Warrior in the class of 2011.

Agree 100%.  Buzz has had high praise for his work ethic and body transformation.  He also said he has the best hands and feet of ANY freshman big man in the country.  The skill/talent is there with Gardner for sure..might just take 2 years to fully unleash all his potential.
