When our current newcomers verballed to MU
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:25:47 PM »
Jamail Jones:  August 2009
Vander Blue:  October 2009
Reggie Smith:  November 2009
Jae Crowder:  February 2010
Davante Gardner:  May 2010

So at this time last year, we had one signee.  (Aaron Bowen verballed in November 2008, but backed out in September 2009.)  Since we only have three scholies to fill, we have plenty of time to fill our slots.

Don't feed it.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

During or right after Midnight Madness or Haunted Hoops, seems to be a time when guys have committed to MU. Off the top of my head, this includes:

Vander Blue
Erik Williams
Tyshawn Taylor
Damien Saunders
Brett Roseboro
Joe Fulce

Not that great of a track record, since 3 of those 6 did not show up
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

I would say, while his intent was always to bolt, the quest began in earnest the moment following the final horn in Minneapolis after beating Kentucky.

Technically we had no signees given the signing period falls in November :)

But we also had one more verbal from Monterale Clark.  At least up until September 16 2009.

Oh yeah...wow...thanks for the reminder on that one.

So I guess that means in early September 2009, we thought we had only one scholie left and were holding it for Vander.

Not sure, approaching his 10th season at MU I think.  Good thing he hired Buzz Williams to come to MU.

The majority of coaches "bolt". Get over it. As to when he really felt it was time to go, I believe it was the heartbreaking loss to Stanford. He stormed off the court and was on his way to a new gig.

I think Tom Crean is about to get bolted himself. Paybacks are a bitch.

Apples and oranges comparison.

The elements of the 2010 class were much different then the 2011 class. Throwing up the commit dates isn't really a true indicator of what is taking place but we all have our own standard of analysis.

I don't even know what this means.  All I was doing is pointing out that we have plenty of time before our freshman class for 2011 is settled so people should stop panicking.

We're celebrating being cancer free while 79 and others offer condolences and encourage us to somehow learn to live without without the tumor. Too funny.

Believe me MUBurrow...I tried...

But is it really surprising that it got hijacked by the same old tired people trying to make their same old tired points?

I appreciate the research in finding when the class of 2010 verbaled/committed.  At this point as far as I'm aware, we've really only missed on Branden Dawson.  (I suspect landing Jamil Wilson hurt our chances, but I'm okay with the trade off.)  We are still in the mix for most of our other top targets.  I would guess we at least land 1 of the 7 or 8 Top 100 guys we are in on.  Heck, if we get 2 - that will be an exceptional recruiting year in my opinion - given all the depth we already have.

As far as I'm aware, Marquette has NEVER had 3 recruiting classes rated Top 25 back to back to back - and I'm not sure I recall a time since the days of Al that MU has landed back to back Top 25 classes.   I'll never understand some of the Buzz skeptics/cynics.  If you can't see/tell/observe by now that the guy has "it," your intuition and perceptiveness are severly lacking.

I heartily disagree. I think Tom Crean fully intended to leave MU from the moment he signed his first contract. How you say, steppingstone?

I'm kinda sick of the TC thing.  But i think he decided to bolt when he realized Bloomington has more tanning salons than MKE

If you're sick of the TC thing, don't feed into it. And seriously, another tanning joke? People can't find this sh*t funny anymore, do they? Inserting Tom Crean into completely unrelated threads is almost to the point of a weird fetish for some of the people on here.
