Now this is a guy who I think we're gonna really like... Seems like a down to earth guy's guy.  Good luck to him and MU!

A Bruce fan. Now, that is legit.

i think he'll be great! and he's only 51. pretty young for a president at a place like MU (or anywhere, for that matter).

How awesome is it that he owns the georgetown mascot, and that it now lives on marquettes campus.  You know that its making an appearance at the georgetown marquette games.

Fr Pilarz sounds great - young, energetic, knows the classroom is sacred and likes to teach a class to keep him grounded, loves basketball, is intellectual - I think we found a winner!  Welcome Fr. Pilarz!!  And GO MARQUETTE!!

Congratulations to Marquette and Fr. Pilarz.

This guy is a true Jesuit - tough, intelligent and down to earth.  He grew up in Camden where there are nothing but cracked sidewalks.

Great hire!
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Too bad Georgetown isn't a traditional rival (though it seems to be growing), as it would be great to be able to say that we've snagged their mascot. Doesn't/Didn't that happen with some other school?

I thought I saw Bleauteaux running around on the Fordham campus a couple years ago.

Blackhat

somebody paint a chicken gold put a leash on it and give it to Pilarz.

Honestly, based on Marquette's history with big decisions, I was concerned about how MU was going to screw up this selection.

Father Pilarz has made a great first impression with me.

Me too.  I was also concerned but my father, a Scranton alum ('50), has very good things to say about him.  He has met my father several times and my dad was impressed enough to open his check book.  Based on his CV, he seems the right mix of a focus on academics, MU's Jesuit/Catholic identity, and basketball.  As an alum, all three things are important to me and he seems to have the background to tackle those issues.  Also, based on my Dad's encounter, he's got fundraising nailed down as well!!

I have a question to ask about these searches.  What role do the Jesuits play in something like this?  Do they "groom" potential Presidents at other schools or seminaries, and then work with the schools Trustees to place their "stars" at their top schools?  Or is it entirely a Trustee driven excercise?

WildBill77RT

I'm withholding judgment for 5 years until Wild's students have left the program.

Seriously though, seems like a great hire.  Fund raising ability, seemingly down to earth, but still can handle the politicking.
