Looks like Butler's nickname should be The Cheetah

Butler is impressive, but HOLY OTULE: 20 rep bench at 185, 396 squat, 300 clean, and 33 chinups at his height/weight!

Otule is quite the He Man. I have to wonder Jerome Whitehead would have done in the weight room. J was cut like chiseled granite and that was without the benefit of weight training. Imagine the power had he the benefit of space age training methods and technology.

I'm figuring we owe all this improvement to the hyperbaric chamber formerly purchased on Ebay.

Maurice Lucas would have outdone them all!

Erik Williams looks to be coming along great.

I'll be honest, I expect a lot out of him this year. He seems like he's ready for his break out year, and I think most casual Marquette fans (as in, not on this forum) have probably only heard his name in passing.

jesmu84

I really would not have expected Jimmy to be the quickest player on the team. Especially beating out someone like Reggie (on 2/3 events).

GGGG

I think we are seeing more evidence of why Williams struggled last year.  We heard reports on how he was used by his coaches, and he clearly didn't have the right type of weight and quickness training.  Hopefully he will make an impact this year.

I'm seriously having trouble understanding how a guy that lean could only do 14 chin ups last year.

Clam Crowder

Frozena with 19 reps on the bench at 185...that is pretty impressive

I thought the same thing.  Those are good numbers.  I'd expect him to be strong because he's such a big kid.  But the chin-ups number really took me by surprise.

I've been really excited about Erik every since we were recruiting him.  Not sure why, but I've had a feeling about him.  I hope he has a great year.

Anyone somewhat surprised Vander Blue is nowhere to be seen in the lane agility, pro-agility, or vertical? I know these guys are separated by tenths of a second but I thought he'd be top 3 in one of these

Not after watching him in the Pro Am.

Not intending to be a wise ass here but with arms as long as Williams' isn't a chin-up much more work than it would be for a guy with a more compact frame?

Yes...the lankier a player, the more challenging bench press and chin ups.  To me, it still blows me away that Wes Matthews, Buycks..were at 41 and 36 chin ups respectively.  To illustrate how fit these guys are..I believe the benchmark for the 85% percentile on the Presidential Physical Fitness testing is for a Senior in HS to do 12 chin ups.

This may not be a bad thing..as these guys are ultra competitive..and I'm sure Vander wants to be at the top of the list...yes he has the hype..but seeing that his measurables aren't that great righ now..has to be motivating.

I've felt the same way. I think he's the kind of guy that once he gets "comfortable" on the court, things will just "click" for him.

I hope you're right!

Love the development for Otule, I just hope has made similar improvement in finishing around the rim.

In the pro am he was very good at dunking the ball when he got it close to the rim. Not much of a scorer outside of that.

Really?  I'm 42, 6'3", 200lbs , and can do about 20...or three reps of 10...without much effort.

See...no....there is nothing about me that could be considered that.

That is why I am finding the 12 chin-up standard unbelieveable.

that's not typical

For example, 20 would score 100 for the USMC fitness standards.  12 scores a 60.  Minimum requirement is three.  That's for the Marines.

Blue's body isn't done maturing yet and he hasn't had the high-level time in the weight room that his older teammates have had.  Big difference between late teens and early twenties, especially when the older guys have been with Todd Smith for at least a year, if not two or more.  I suspect Blue and the other freshmen will catch up real quick.
