I always wonder if Crean knew he was going to leave and told Williams that. Would not have guaranteed Williams the job, but Williams would have had no chance at getting MU head coaching job if he remained at UNO. My take is that Crean knew the Indiana job would open up and he was going to take it if offered. Crean told Williams this and by Williams taking the assistant position job at MU he put himself into postion to be considered for the MU job. No inside knowledge here, just makes sense to me.
