Conversion from VHS to DVD (or to the PC hard drive)

Would like to start converting some for a Christmas present for the folks.

What is the best way to do so?

I went to Costco and had them done.  I believe it was 10 bucks a shot and they came out pretty good.

Yeah. Think about it. That 12yo now uses an iPod smaller than a pack of Wrigley's gum.
And it can take pictures.
