Wow, DePaul conversation says Buzz is making a strong late bid for 2011 Mike Shaw.  Yet, I see nothing here.  What gives?

The thing with this coaching staff is that it's hard to figure out who they are recruiting sometimes and very hard to figure out who they really, really want.

Shaw isn't a late comer in the Marquette recruiting scene either.  He's been on the radar for the past couple years and I think he's been on campus a couple times over that time, so although people may think it's a late push, I don't agree with that.

Actually, Shaw has been discussed quite a bit.  Just not so much here.  Would be a very good get for MU.

Mike Shaw, Nick Faust and a spring juco or spring decommit or transfer from the coaching roulette would be a typical great Buzz class.

If Bruce Weber didn't finally have a great class coming in this year he probably would have been fired as Illinois has gone due south since all the Self recruits have left and that is while competing in a weakend big ten with only OSU, MSU looking like national powers.

DePaul and Oliver Purnell......please.....neither one can hold a candle to Marquette's facilities, fan base and Buzz Williams who is a future legend and Oliver Purnell who is an overpriced, very average coach that DePaul overpaid and reached on to save face and show a commitment to the restless big east brass.

Shaw will fit one of the few position of need on the team where there isn't a total logjam. Marquette is the obvious choice....and hopefully he's starting to feel the same way.

I'm sure this has been posted before but for those of us that missed it.

Do not know much about him. Memory says that for quite a while he was to be a package deal with Blackshear, but I gues that fell by the wayside.

I also recall some posts that this guy had issues--do not know iof that is true.

Does anybody have some insider info on the kid?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Don't believe he has issues.

Thats one of the most impressive high school highlight videos I have seen. Mike Shaw would be a perfect fit for Buzz and Marquette--more than enough size to rebound and defend at the 4, plus the skills, shooting, and tenacity to be a force inside or outside on offense.

Just about a month ago I was getting the sense that MU wasn't very high on his list. Maybe we still aren't. Shows how quickly recruiting can change though, and that as long as a school is in the mix for a kid they shouldn't be counted out. Of all the guys we've been mentioned with, Shaw is my dream commit.

MarkCharles

Does anyone know if Illinois has any scholarships available for 2011? They have 3 commits so far, I would guess they probably have 1 left.  I can't find an up to date scholarship grid for them online.

I think that class would be a little above the average for Buzz.  I mean, that's 1 top 30 (and from what people have said, could be top 15 by the end of his senior year) kid (Faust) and 1 top 30-40 kid (Shaw).  Blue was top 30-40, but the rest of Buzz's recruits have been more like 50-100.  That would be unbelievable if we could get Faust and Shaw.  I hope you're right with you're optimism.

Shanunu

In that highlight video it mentioned the Mac Irvin Fire. Wasn't that Reggie Smith's AAU team? If so I think that might help us out a little bit if Reggie and Shaw are friends.

Maybe, but he's arguably the best coach DePaul has had in 2 decades.  He's taken three different schools (Old Dominion, Dayton, Clemson) to the NCAA tournament and has gone to the dance the last three years.  Will get his 400th win this year.

GOMU1104

It's going to take alot of work, but Purnell definately has DePaul going in the right direction.

According to various reports, he was the harderst working head coach on the recruiting circuit this summer. He's gotten some top players to visit...which wasnt even happening before.

MarquetteNation

Not sure if this was posted yet, but it looks like Faust is taking an official visit to loserville on sept. 4th.

Mike Shaw looks like the "Mailman" and it's more than just the number.
His ability to get to the hoop in various ways, outmuscle players in the post...
Appears to definitely be a star in the making and would impact the Marquette team immediately!

Moreover, continuing the tradition of Lazar and Marcus Jackson, we may have our next point forward! lol

Faust to Louisville is unlikely unless Bello and Miller takes their services elsewhere. All signs point to Bello and Miller signing with Louisville though and they will be full once that happen. If they go elsewhere you can be sure Faust will be the top remaining option for Pitino.

What is the c.w. on B.J. Young?  Have not seen him discussed here or on Scout.  Seems like a top rated PG and we are in his final four.

mikem91288

BJ Young sounds appealing. 6'4" PG. Read an article that he visited IU earlier this summer for their elite camp. Says he likes Coach Crean. later in the article when asked for other schools he mentions MU first in a list of about 8 of them.

Also, looks like Shaw plays for Mac Irvin, which was Reggie's AAU squad. Any chance we can get Reggie to bring him to MU?

Exactly.  DePaul did *much* better than I thought they would do with Purnell.  A proven coach who regularly gets teams to the NCAA.

6'4" PG.

Did not know he was 6'4".  When is the last time we had a PG that tall?  Buzz is really on top of some great talent.

If Justin Coleman fails to qualify, a scholaship would be open for Faust.

Sam Worthern was 6'5"

Buzz will sign a true point guard this year. The only question is how far down the talent ladder he will have to go to get one.

True, forgot about Coleman.

You guys are also going to be getting an official visit from PF Bernard Sullivan. MD, UVA, and Purdue are the other officials scheduled at the moment. Clemson, Penn State, Georgia could be in the mix as well but Id guess hed go to one of the schools hes taking an official to as they are all better situations.

They have 2 more. One is saved for Shaw, and the other will likely go to a guard(Either Oglesby, or Randle)

The idea of a 6'4" point guard would have fired me up until 84 informed me that size doesn't matter in basketball.
