I thought they were working hard to improve their academic standards so they could pitch the BE for membership again? At least that is the reason why I thought they hired Tranghese as a consultant...

Will Barton (No. 12 overall on Scout) was declared academically ineligible by the NCAA. He has one opportunity to petition and have the comittee re-evaluate his transcripts. Tough luck considering he's already on campus. Looks like Pastner has picked up right where Calipari left off as he's now averaging 1 ineligible per year... Hopefully, the FedEx guy's deep pockets will solve this problem.

Wasn't the most famous MU player of all-time declared academically ineligible his first year of college as well?

We have had to deal with the Clearinghouse the past few years.  We had commitments from academic risks for the 2010 class as well...one of which will likely not qualify.

There is a difference between actually knowing that a risk is present vs. not knowing at all. Memphis doesnt seem to do much due diligence. Every school knew of Wade's problems which is why so many backed away.

Ummmmmmmm who will likely not qualify from our 2010 class? Are you just guessing Crowder because he's not here yet?? Or am I misinterpreting your post?

I believe he is talking about Coleman at Louisville. Supposedly, he gave MU a silent verbal last summer... Obviously something happened to change that (Issues qualifying would be my guess).

I think Memphis knew he was a risk. He was their first commitment and jump started their class. So even if he does not get in, he was a valuable recruit.

Ready2Fly

Yeah, that went right over my head. Thank god, I thought we were going to have to sweat it out for one of the new guys.

I never like talking bad about any school's incoming players academic problems. It's not Memphis' problem this kid focuses more on basketball than anything else in his life, including academics.

The only time that academics should be brought up is when the players can't graduate or are failing most of their classes IN college, not before they ever step in a classroom. You can't fault Memphis for this kid's problems, especially when Memphis has actually graduated 90% of its' players since 2006, and that includes Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose in the 10%

Marquette took a chance on someone who was academically ineligible his first year.  His name was D-Wade.  I think it worked out pretty nicely for Marquette....

hmmm....except the difference is that Barton has stated he only plans on attending college for one year.

My brain is available for rent for a mere million a year -- with a ten year commitment, of course!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
